I'm choosing between a 5400rpm and the 60GB 7200rpm hard drive on the portable one website. I tend to put the laptop on my lap a lot so I was worried it would get really hot with a faster hard drive-- I reading a bunch of reviews and forums right now. I'd appreciate any opinions from those of you who have the 7k60 hard drive. Thanks.

Hi neelix,
My thinkpad came with a Hitachi 60GB 4200rpm drive, a couple of months ago I bought the Hitachi 60GB 7200rpm drive(7k60)to increase my performance. Boy did it ever! I don't notice any decrease in battery life or increase in heat...same as it ever wasThe only thing I do notice is things go a lot faster now! I say go for it.

I am using my S6210 with the 60Gig 7200rpm hard drive right now.
It is on my lap, and has been running just about all day.
It is warm, but definitely not to the point of annoyance or being uncomfortable.
I do not have anything to compare it to (like a 5400rpm drive), but the machine seems fast as a whole. I do not know how much of this is due to the hard drive speed.
PortableOne is a great place to order from. Very speedy and helpful. The prices are good too.

I was afraid of that. Now I have to have it.[

I really don't want to deal with an upgrade later on.
It's not such a big deal to me, but any comments on vibration from the Hitachi 7k60. Seems like that's the most common issue people have with it. Seems to be very subtle, though.
I have a question about the S6210 not coming with a restore disk. Having restored a computer like 3 times in like 12 years or so, that kind of worries me. Don't know anything about Hard Drive Backups. People in this forum are talking about making an image of their drive once they recieve it. What exactly is the procedure? I need something like Norton Ghost, right? -
I will say that the difference between the 5400 and 7200 is not great. If you have the extra money, go for it, but don't expect a major leap bewteen those two speeds.

I do not know if this is what you are refering to, buy the hard drive comes with a partition when the original setterings or whatever. Is that what you are looking for?
Is it possible to create your own restore disk?
If so, how?
Do I really need to create a restore disk?

Another option is the 80gig 5400rpm hard drive.
