s6220 volume

hello all, i've had my s6220 for 1 to 1.5 months now, and am loving it! my old laptop is an averatec 3150H with 640 MB RAM ( -32 for video ). there are several things that i like better about the averatec, however. i like the backlit display, and the placement of the display--right above the touchpad. the Fujitsu's display (for things like capslock, HD working, battery, etc..) is stuck in the back and very difficult to read in dim lighting. also, i liked the volume dial on the averatec, placed for easy thumb access if you are using your index finger on the touchpad. now, to the point. when i am listening to music, watching DVDs, etc. on my laptop, i've noticed that the difference between the 1st level (no noise) and 2nd level volume is quite high. with the averatec i could use the dial to set the volume to whatever volume i liked. with the Fujitsu, it's either nothing or loud (and of course i can increase the volume and get louder, but there is no "soft" volume). this applies to speakers and if i use headphones. the volume in the system tray is already set to very very low. is there som edriver or something that i can get to resolve this?

When you listen to music or watch DVDs, certain programs have their own volume control which is unaffected by the Volume Control in the Control Panel. You can use the program's volume control to fine tune the level of sound you want to hear, or you can always get a pair of earphones, that works too [ ]

Right, so if you are in Media Player, it will have a sound control. Tone that one down to low-mid, then your Fujitsu bars will offer more of a gradient.

i tried earphones...the problem persists. unless you mean get earphones which have their own volume control. although i was hoping i could address this issue without having to purchase extra hardware. as for the volume control in windows media player...yes, that works, but if i happen to be browsing the web and watch a brief flash movie, the volume is still very high. any other suggestions? am i the only one experiencing this problem, or has everyone else just resigned themselves to accepting the coarse-tuning of volume that the s6220 has to offer? it's still an amazing machine and i love it, but this was just a gripe i had.

Flash movies often have their own volume controls as well. If you can fix the problem in every application but the web, that's pretty good in my book.
