Can anyone with an s6231 (or s7010) with a 7k60 HD comment on heat? or how about just heat in general on the S series? I bought an Averatec 4260 and have read about heating issues on sony s and asus w3v. I'm just looking for a light, cool, notebook with a good screen (preferably WS). Currently I'm leaning towards a s6231 from P1, though I've never actually seen one.

I just started using an S6231 with a 7k60 hard drive. I haven't noticed any particular heat build-up issues, but the fan does come on every 15 minutes or so. It's not too loud; however, it does get annoying and can be distracting.

Have others with the 7k60 experienced this, and are there solutions?

Nope, not an upgrade. I got the computer new with a 7k60.

I've reconsidered my original post and now think that the noise I'm hearing is from the CPU, not from the fan. It's not loud at all, just a low whirring sound. I'm surprised only because I never heard such a thing on my (very old) Gateway laptop--although the Gateway was louder overall than the S6231, so maybe I just never noticed it.

Other than when I'm booting up the computer, I have yet to hear the fan come on.
