    Hello all,

My S6231 arrived a few hours ago. Everything looks good. The screen is nice, the performance is good, etc. However, I'm feeling a definite keyboard flex on the right side.

From the bottom of the keyboard to the top the flex / sponginess starts from the:

    - 'Alt' key and everything to the right
    - ',' key and everything to the right
    - 'L' key and everything to the right
    - 'O' key and everything to the right
    - '0' key and everything to the right

This flex intensifies on the keys to the bottom right.

I had read older posts that spoke about the flex, but more recently everyone has been disputing the older messages.

Honestly, do other s6231 owners notice the same issue? Thanks for your input.

    Cheers,
    Gureel

    have you read my thread?

I also feel the keyboard is not that great. And for me, it is more of the left side that has the sagging.
I still find the keyboard usable, i love how quiet it is.

If you poke or stab at the keys, which a lot of folks do, you will notice some flex, but so what? None of these keyboards are failing that I know of. Being a light touch typist, I like a little flex in the keyboard. It's like a shock absorber. There are many other great features of the S6231 that are so positive, the little bit of flex in the keyboard becomes minute and un-noticeable. Regards, Ace [8D]

This laptop is going back ASAP. For the keyboard to flex like this is unacceptable. So what if it aint' an IBM Thinkpad. It should still be built solid, and that my friends it is not. Don't waste your money.

I admit I just got mine 2 days ago, but I don't notice any flex what so ever. I've even tried typing with as much force as possible and do not notice any flex at all. Maybe not all of the s6231s are coming from the same production line?

I have no such flex issues, it's not as firm as my ThinkPad T40 keyboard but certainly the flex is in general not noticeable when I type.

My S6231 does have some flex on the left side, and it does annoy me a little bit, but not enough to hate the machine.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I acutally liked my Dell's keyboard (which had zero flex) compared to the Fujitsu I have now.

Well, the s6231 is in the box, on it's way back.

I spoke to Fujitsu tech support. The tech rep got himself an s6231 while I was on the phone with him and tried the keyboard out for himself. Sure enough he experienced the same flex issues. I guess it's an s6231 'feature'.

I've placed an order for an IBM X40 with the docking station; hopefully that'll work out better.

    Cheers,
    Gureel

ok, i must have typed 5 papers so far with this laptop and i have gotten use to the "flex" on the left side, i dont even notice it anymore only when i am staring at the keyboard, but once again, this is no logitech Ultra X keyboard or IBM keyboard.

i am very pleased with my purchase of the Fujitsu S6231 after getting use to the very MINOR problems.

and, i expect the prices for these things to go down! i think the machine is perfect for a colege student.

Maybe when the chinese company takes over they will lower the prices.

It's also crappy how there's no touchpad on the X40...

<hr height='1' noshade id='quote'></font id='quote'></blockquote id='quote'>I just typed on the s6231 at Frys tonight and I agree with skagen. If you look at the upper row of keys you can see a miniscule flex when typing, but it's so small as to remind me of the nursery rime where a princess was offended by the pea underneath the 100 or so mattrasses she slept on. i.e. it's being blown way out of proportion and potential buyers shouldn't shy away based on the extreme sensitivities of a few users in this forum.

    David,

I am sharing my experience with this laptop and am not trying to shy away buyers. Someone asked if anyone has flex in their keyboard and so I shared mine. Mine is significant, as I have owned a few laptops in my day, and have never had as much flex as I do in this one. I think this is an issue with my laptop and do not believe it is a problem with the series as a whole.

I think the dude is just trolling for IBM anyway. He has exactly 3 posts - all trying to slam the 6231 for no reason really.

If he is a real person and genuinely wants to go buy and IBM with a shoddy screen that will make you go blind - all because of some imaginary "flex", then hey, be my guest. My girlfriend has a T41 from work and she is dying to get a hold of a 6231 after using mine at home. So whatever this mythical "sever flex" is clealy did not register with her either - and she totally wants out of IBM.

I myslef have owned many laptops and I can't even see a problem with this one, let alone anyhitng to warrant sending the laptop back. Way, way overblown and dramatic. The guy is just seeking attention.

I certainly agree that the S6231 is a fantastic notebook and highly recommend it to anyone. As I mentioned before, I do notice some flex on my particular machine, but certainly not enough to make me dislike this beauty.

I wasn't able to reply to this topic because I've never seen the S6231 or any S6xxx model as closely as I've seen them today.

I read basically every topic on this forum regarding the S6231 and this one concerned me the most.

However, I went to Frys and took a look...

Like some of these guys said, I didn't notice any issues with the keyboard. I pressed down with about twice as much pressure you normally would use and the displacement/dip from this pressure was comparable to an HP DV1000 or something right next to the S6231.

    The keyboard looked pretty solid.

i did notice a tiny bit of flex in my keyboard, which is definitely on the cheap side. but so what -- look at the price/feature comparison for a ThinkPad and a Fujitsu. I would much prefer top notch specs than a perfect keyboard -- mine works just fine even after i spilled some tea into it.

if i really had to *****, i'd go for the stupid useless Application Pannel on my S6220. But i loves my baby too much to ***** :)
