So I went to my university's library, with my notebook.
I turned on my notebook, plugged the ac adapter into the AC outlet,
plugged my usb mouse into the usb port, next thing that happens was the screen went black. At first I thought it went into sleep mode, so I press the power button, but it booted up from BIOS screen.

Next thing I realize my usb mouse is not working, so I tried my usb 1gig storage into the ports and that didnt work either. I called the fujitsu customer support, was told to uninstall and install the usb controllers under Device Manager, and that didnt work.

So now my usb ports are non-functional and I have to bring it into a service depot tomorrow, with 3 exams coming up on consecutive days tomorrow. My suspicion is it was a power surge when I plugged it into the AC outlet. My battery wasnt able to charge for half an hour after that.

Its just my unfortunate stroke of bad luck that this kind of incident have to happen to me, on my 8 day old notebook, in the midst of exam week.

I guess I should look into getting a powersurge protector for my notebook to prevent future tragedies.

Different laptop, but had a similar scare with a then new toshiba. With AC plugged in, USB bus powered harddrive plugged in, I turned the notebook on. Screen went blank, and wouldn't respond to anything. Couldn't turn it off. Didn't want to remove the battery with it running so I just let the battery drain.

Moral of the story was to never start the laptop with usb devices plugged in which pull significant juice from the usb port.

Ouch, good for you it looks like Fujitsu is taking care of the problem. Have you found their support to be good thus far?

Fujitsu's customer support was pretty good. Although from this experience I find Fujitsu to be somewhat slow in delivering the needed parts to the service depot.

The service depot where I dropped off my notebook found that the systems board needs to be replaced and would take 1 or 2 weeks to receive the item from Fujitsu.

Other than their long shipping queue and process, I am quite content with their service.
