I am afraid of upgrading a HD from 40GB(5400rpm) to 60GB(7200rpm) because I heard that the 7200rpm can generate more heat and noise.

Is is true? Any feedback from 7200 rpm users?

    Thanks for the reply.

Is Diskeeper comes with any Fujitsu Notebooks?

I don't even hear the HD on my 7K60......this I think is partly due to Diskeeper, a great de-frag utility. Set on Smart Schedule, it works in the background and keeps the HD almost free of file fragments..this in turn keeps the HD from searching.

As far as heat.....can't say, don't notice any real difference from my X31 ThinkPad.

    Hi jun,
The 7200rpm notebook drives make no more noise than a 4200 or 5400rpm drive and the heat is no worse either. The defrag utility built into XP will keep your drive defragged fairly well, but diskeeper does the best job. It does not come with any notebook, but you can buy it directly from the maker at http://www.executive.com/coverpage.asp

like I did. If you have XP pro you will need the pro version of diskeeper and it is about $46 USD, if you have XP home then the home version of diskeeper is cheaper as well.

    good luck

I went from the 4200 to the 7200 in my new notebook. I actually don't see a huge speed difference, but I also dropped from 1GB RAM to 512. Anyway, it does not produce any more heat but it is a touch louder, but hardly noticable.
