    Hello!
When i turm the sound right down, mute the sound or come out of sleep mode, the subwoofer on my xi1546 makes a 'white' noise, a sort of hiss.

i remember read somewhere that someone else also had this problem and wondered if there is a solution?

Just spoke to FS about it and they said they haven't heard of such a fault and would will take it in for a look, but was really hoping i could just change the drivers or something?!

    thanks

Yes, that noise usually comes from interference from A/C Adaptors, CRT Monitors, Cell Phones, and some other electronics. If you move the woofer away from those things it should alleviate the noise issue.

Of course, this is just a guess. It could be something else.

    Hi,

I have exactly the same problem. I have returned the my xi1546 once and got the the "there is no problem" reply from FS.

.. and this is not a A/C interference problem, ground-loop problem etc of any sort. It is an intermittent noise from the built in sub that you get when you turn the volume down to zero.

I have tried all the latest drivers from both FS and codecs from Realtek. Nothing works...

Please excuse my ignorance, but are you sure it is the subwoofer. The hard disk is constantly running and makes a sort of hissing coming from it. Also, the fan is on for a period of time, after it has come on loudly for a few seconds.

I don't have a problem, but I have just checked to see if i can hear it. I can hear the fan and the hard disk, but nothing from the actial subwoofer. On the flip side. Fujitsu Siemens don't admit to thing that are wrong with their notebooks, so it may infact be the subwoofer.

Yes, it is the built in subwoofer.

As I said, the problem is intermittent, but when you have it you can turn the noise on/off by adjusting the volume control between zero and just above zero (you get the noise at volume zero).

The noise has no relation to the HD, cooling-fan, dvd-drive or left/right bilt-in speakers.

    Hi Nollan
Yep sounds like we both have the same problem! Definately the sub like you say, odd that it only effects some xi1546's.
    Tried the drivers too.
Where are you from? i'm in the UK , don't wanna return it if Fujitsu UK have already said they can't do anything for you.
    Also what spec is yours? my's a T7200, 2 x 80Gb Drives, 2GB Ram, ATI X1800
    Thanks
    chris

I wonder if this happened on the older M3438G/M4438G notebooks. They were practically the same as the Xi 1546 in terms of sound set up. If it did, then I would suspect this to be a problem that Fujitsu Siemens couldn't be bothered to fix.

Is the noise really bad. Does it annoy you alot. if it does, then you should tell Fujitsu Siemens about this, and they should do something. To be selling notebooks with problems in them, is just plain wrong. Also, has anyone tried to move the notebook away from any other lectrical equipment, as Gautam 3 mentioned.

Don't think it was a problem on the m3438g as between my brother and myself we have had 3 m3438g's and not had the same problem.

It isn't affected by other electrical equipment it's definately a problem with the laptop, it hard to explain but if you heard the noise you'd understand!!!

Not too annoying really, just don't mute it, only like you say on a brand new £1000 laptop it shouldn't have these faults!

Sadly i don't really want to send it off to FS for a couple of weeks as i need it for work, so i guess i'll just have to put up with it!

    My system:

    T2400, 2Gb RAM, 100Gb HD, X1800.

The audio chipset i Realtek ALC880, which I this is the suspectible part (without any proof really).

And agiain, it is not related to EMC, cross-talk, ground-loop etc...

I have returned it to FS Sweden (or their representative).

    hi
yes my is also a ALC880, could someone who doesn't have this problem post up what chipset their xi1546 has? suspect it will also be the same but good to check!
Might try out some older realtek drivers to see if the problem is with newer drivers

ok installed and tried drivers v1.47 and v1.40 and no change. Now stuck!!! played with the eq levels and it is definately only the sub that is effected, if i play music and only mute the sub it makes the noise over the music

Have you tried to mute the subwoofer. Does that have any impact on the noise from it. I am using the standard drivers on the disc from Fujitsu Siemens. The version is 5.10.00.5224. Hope this helps.

My current Realtek drivers are 5.10.00.5324 which I believe is the latest non-Vista drivers.

My operating system is XP MCE 2005.

I have the same problem, this is not some fan or hard drive or anything, basically, whenever the sound is at zero or muted, the subwoofer hisses incredibly loud. Even worse, this happens too if I plug in my headphones (thus muting the speakers). So, at night, in bed, my wife's not happy :) The only good news is that when the cpu fans speed up to compensate for eg gaming, the hiss blends in.

If anyone has a solution to this, I'll buy him a Duvel.

    Wahoo!! no more hiss!!!!!!!!

As a matter of course i reinstall windows every couple of months and did it yesterday. I loaded windows xp on and then used the Fujitsu driver dvd no.45 to reload all the drivers apart from the HD audio codec and AC'97 codec. I then did windows update.
I then installed the supplied audio drivers and the hiss returned so i rolled back the drivers.

Next i installed Realtek 'HD Audio codec 1.54 (5.10.0.5345)' and 'AC'97 Audio codec A3.97' and the hiss has disappeared!

    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/

one other point is that when i installed the drivers which worked i had the volume set to about half way rather then at it's lowest.

Hopefully these new drivers should solve the problems for you guys too, let me know if they work!

You, sir, are my hero-of-the-day ! Your solution works fine here, just uninstalled the old realtek HD drivers and installed yours. It even got rid of the jack auto-detection popup which was really annoying when I plugged in my headphones while gaming. I don't think I still have the blue panel thingie, but that's only a plus for me :) The hiss is gone, at mute, at 0 volume with the wheel, and when plugging in headphones. This laptop just came a whole lot closer to perfection. [It won't come any closer tho, I don't think anyone can fix the way too small right shift button, but I'll get used to it :D]

I don't know where you are from, but next time you're in belgium, let me know, and I'll buy you the Duvel you earned :D

    indeed guy,

It works!! (amilo xi 1526) The latest drivers is the message.

Lol the shift button is indeed too small. But with some weeks practice you will mangage. A friend of mine even doesn't have a right shift button.

    hey guys,

just wanted to say that works for me too. BUT i think it just makes the sub not work anymore, check for yourself. If you play with the volume of the sub it has no effect to the sound!!!!!!!

looks like they are trying to fool us!!!!
    lol

I'm pretty sure my sub works though, I put my ear against it and I really think there's sound coming from it. I can't adjust the sub volume separately, no, but I couldn't do that before either. Could you guys verify physically if there's sound coming from it?

yeah i did that too, the sound comes out alright. So it is working-in a way. But it seems the sub is actually putting out the whole range of sound, not just the bass frequency. As far as i can tell. Not sure if it did that too with the other drivers or actually acted more like a ´sub´. Any way its doing something and there is no hissing......that hissing really pissed me off..... :)

I have the same feeling as jimmyme. I think that the 1.54 was the best driver so far. Now I tried the 1.57 en it did what jimmyme discribed. wel just wait until we have a driver 2.xx ;-)
