Last week, I purchased a Dell studio 15, comming with i7 720, ati 5470, 1080p lcd, 4G of 1333mhz ram. Before I visited some website about the ranking of the graphic cards, I expected the 5470 should be more powerful than what 4670 does, because of the first digit "5". Unfortunately, the 5470 cannot even satisfy the high quality gamming setting. But Dell have already shipped my laptop and I hate complicated returning process. I am now wondering how well 5470 could support Bad Company 2. If it is not that bad, I am not going to spend another week for waiting.

no, you cant JUST replace the GPU. However, you can return/ exchange your notebook for a better one or money back.
-
by the way, is that possible to overclock it so as to gain better performance?
-
Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
If it is new just return and exchange.
Even Nvidia GPUs have this kind of system with thier GPUs.
Yes you can OC BUT i dont think it will reach the level that a 4670 has. -

I don't think it is possible to replace the GPU. If you really can't live with it , just return it, and order something better.
EDIT:If you live in the states, Best Buy are currently selling the G73 with the 5870 for around 1300, if i remember correctly, although i dont think you would like the size -

No, I don't think you can replace it. Unless Dell has decided to start using non-proprietary GPU's. Like said, you should return it and buy something else.
Remember, the series will always overlap. Always do your research before buying a specific GPU, as generally, 46xx series GPU will be better than a 54xx series GPU, and a 36xx series GPU will be better than a 43xx series GPU.
Basically, a x4xx series GPU is low end, and is for basic graphical usage. A x6xx series GPU is for mid range sort of stuff, and will play games nicely, usually at medium setting, and a x8xx series GPU is a high end, and meant for higher end gaming. Remember that just because something is later generation, it isn't necessarily better in overall power, even though it may have more features. -
my ordered dell is now in a completed status, but not shipped yet. if I terminate the order now, will there be any fee charged on me?

Its not just in the states, its probably cheaper than most high end laptops around the world. It is cheaper at best buy because it was meant to be sold over there, it has lower specs than the ones you can find on newegg. But those lower specs are the ram and hard disk, i think.

Return it and find an alternative or some other way of getting by in the few weeks that it will take to get a new one. I would not even keep it out of mere principle but that's just me.

LOL, i cant argue with that, as i know what you mean. I live in Kuwait, and 7 of the eight laptops in our house are from the states, I could have bought them from Kuwait, but i prefer buying them from over there for the warranty, build quality and more importantly the price.

@qwerasdfcr- nice map reference!
but a VERY valid point nonetheless! -
that's why you should look at benchmark scores before buying if you don't know the naming scheme

is that possible to play bad company 2?

Assassins Creed 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction have set new standards for abysmal performance. These crummy DX9 games run worse than DX10 Crysis Warhead for me.
I don't get why I get no stutter, smooth framerate of 55 FPS average with DX11 in Bad Company 2, but I get 30 FPS of stuttering in Assassins Creed 2. Apparently I'm not alone and it's not a ATi thing, this is a Ubisoft hating PC Gamers thing.
Bad Company 2 vs Assassins Creed 2
Bad Company 2 - 45-59 FPS (DX11)
- 1920*1080 Resolution
- All settings high
- HBAO On
- 32 Player multiplayer
Assassins Creed 2 30-35 FPS with constant stuttering (DX9)
- 1280*720
- Everything on medium or low
- Post processing and reflections off
- Single player
On forums the ONLY people who say they are getting good performances are using these specs:
i7 860 Overclocked or i7 920
X-F HD5850 or XF HD5870 or HD5970
How's that for an awesome DX9 console port? -
god bless me

ATI released a hotfix 10.4 driver that fixes performance issues with SC Conviction. Only problem... Mobility users dont get it.

On my vastly inferior DELL SXPS 16 system with only a MR 4670 i get about 30FPS steady with the settings cranked up to the max(except AA).. i couldn't believe it at first until i ran FRAPS whilist playing the game at 1080p lol....
Heck i think AC2 actually runs better for me than the first AC lol -

I was once tricked by the evil numbering systems (though they do make some sense) when I bought an HP laptop in 2006 with a Geforce Go 7200. At least I could play games on it, though at very reduced settings. I somewhat regretted buying it, as I was going from a Gateway M7515 with a Radeon X600 128 MB which was a noticeable but not huge leap like I was hoping. It was my first dual core computer, first DDR2 machine, and first with 2 GB of RAM though, so I guess that was somewhat redeeming. Also it was my first machine for me to experiment OCing. BF2 was very unstable on it though unlike the Gateway(this was hugely dissapointing for me, probably due to either low cache or low capability per core, or dedicated + shared VRAM system). I bet had the Gateway been configured to have 64 MB dedicated VRAM + 192 MB shared like the HP as opposed to the 64 MB dedicated VRAM + 64 MB shared with another 1 GB of system RAM, games probably would've been just as fast, if not faster.
!!!!!!!!!!!being trapped by the model number of ATI!!! T.T
