I have a 14" notebook with a Geforce 9600M GS. I'm planning to get a desktop monitor for use at my home, and I'd like to know what's kind of screen resolution this card can handle. I play games (Civ4, Dragon Age, and some RTS), but I'm not a hardcore enthusiast. :)

The monitors I've here seen areound here are 1680x1050 or 1920x1080 (all of them between 20" and 23"). Would it be overkill for my card to get a 1080p monitor?

    Thanks!

Yeah, that's overkill for that card. I wouldn't use it at anything over 1366x768 for gaming. It would run 1080p videos or office/internet applications just fine though.

Next time, please post in the appropriate thread (look at the stickies at the top of the page).

No I have got a slightly better card and because AA is not needed at 1920 by 1080 I actually increase performance in games

Get the monitor you want, the the best monitor you can afford regardless of the resolution.

Then just lower and raise the resolution in-game and see what works with each game.

When you finally upgrade your laptop you won't be stuck with a horrid 1366x768 23" monitor... that's nuts. Get 1080p.

That's kind of what I meant... I don't even think they actually make 1366x768 monitors that big...
