Just thought I'd give an update. 30 days, a new 980m and apparentely also a new i7 6700K later I finally got my Clevo P771DM-G back! As the CPU was also damaged now I'm not too sure if it was entirely the drivers fault or just a "happy" coincidence...
Curiously it was sent back to me with the 364.72 drivers which I promptly uninstalled, ran DDU and installed 362.00.
And I'm staying that way for a good while!

If the CPU was toast as well sounds like some type of power issue not a driver issue
