the whole 8600GT on med settings is depressing, if it is already running med settings the first year it is out I would expect it to run low settings the next year...

I'll probably just play it in DX9, Theres really not that much of a difference and you can play with higher settings. Plus I hate Vista.

hmmm lets see here i have

    2 gigs ram
    2.13 ghz core 2 duo
    120 gigs HD space
    Nvidia go GTX 512 mb(this isnt direct X 10 capable though....dammit!)

Im guessing ill be able to play this game on high as long as i crank down the resolution to about 1100-1200..what do you guys think?

    (in response to the geico)

no one knows how the 8600m gt will handle crysis.

also- dx10 is very much up in the air. so far, we have only seen REALLY BAD results with it. but i feel like the dx10 implementations we have seen thus far were hack jobs at best. i think crysis will be a much better indicator of what we can expect from dx10 in the future.

i hope vista gets fixed with sp1 by the time crysis is released (and hopefully the gaming performance in vista is brought up to par with xp)

then maybe the dx10 render path will finally get a chance to do what it was advertised to do in the first place. moderately improve performance while moderately improving visuals at the same time.

i mean, even if dx10 could increase performance 10%... it is a worthless attribute because it is tied to vista, which decreases performance by like 10-20%

the good news is that the 8600m gt (can't say much for the rest of the crippled 8600 series) has proven itself a powerhouse in dx9. so regardless of the vista/dx fiasco, we will be set.

If the requirments on the front are true this game is less demanding than shadowrun...

I have that game and it sucks, its the first game ever to pull my computer to its knees even on the lowest settings.

    Poor coding to the max.

Just so you all know: don't bother buying the game if you fit the "minimum" hardware specs. The game will look like crap... you'll probably have to play at 800x600 with barely any eye candies on.

Recommeded settings are usually set to medium right? And the 8600M GT is only compared to the 7600 desktop, so low-med?

Would sound about right. I don't think you'll be able to play Crysis on settings that you'll even be able to start to think 'wow...' on anything less then the series above the 7600, maybe 7800 etc.

Another problem is that people continuously see 'recommended' cards and immediately assume they'll be able to run the game fantastic. Recommeded cards are usually ones that perform quite well, but often just OK, and often not any where near maxed out settings or high resolution.

I think Ken at GenTechPC OCed the G1S to about 5100 or something. So from what we're seeing it is like an OCed 8600

What the heck?! I hear the 8600GT being compared to the 7600 and then the 7900. Which one is it equal to? Also people say that the 8600GT will only run Crysis on low settings and then others say it can run the game at fairly high. Help!

    http://www.dignews.com/preview.php?story_id=24171
Nvidia 8700M-GT will run it great so the 8600M-GT should too.

Edit: They were running it at 1440x900 on the 8700M-GT with no problems.

I tried Lost Planet - it runs poorly although I am almost positive that is a result of the horrible coding; it is a port from the Xbox 360. It runs @ 800x600 with medium-high settings. Do you know of any other DirectX 10 demos?

I wonder what minimum graphics memory the game needs. The Geforce 6600 can frequently be found with 128MB of dedicated VRAM; while the Radeon X1600 can also be seen with 128MB VRAM installed for the Mobility series. I’m guessing 256MB might be the minimum for VRAM, while 320-384MB might be the recommended, BUT I could be wrong, cause a lot of games at present time only require a minimum of 128MB.

Minimum graphics memory? I'm guessing, at least hopefully at the most, 256MB but the more the better. Did someone say that Lost Planet plays poorly with the 8600GT? It plays beautifully! Did anyone post the most recent requirements? Not that its in stone yet.

Well I'm sure some people know this but most of the videos that have been shown about Crysis are being played with 2GB of RAM with an Nvidia 8800. Some videos are played with direct x 9, but most are with 10.

I hear that the DirectX 10 compared to 9 is much better and I see videos as proof. On the other hand I see the exact opposite. The 10 is almost the exact same as 9. It depends on what program is bieng used.
