There are somer rumores about the new R9 being 20% faster than the actual 880m, which is pretty fast (despite of all the vbios problems).

The new 900m series aren't confirmed right now, and a lot of people are saying that it will probably be released only next year.

I wanna buy something as fast as fast, but only next gen.

Depends on how good the R9 will be and also it's drivers, is it still viable to wait for 900m? I mean, how better the 980m can be, if the R9 would be 20% faster than a gpu that can run Crysis 1080p on ultra with a decent fps rate?

I don't know if 980m can outperform the R9 that much...Maybe 10%? And still, AMD will probably be cheaper.

What u guys think? Will 980m be such a monster gpu, or the less potent but cheaper and still good R9 will have the market?

This is only speculation, and I'm creating this thread so you guys can give your opinions and compare both cards (that are not even here yet, but will be soon, I hope hehe).

The 980M will be far more than 20% faster than the 880M.

We are all hoping that is true.

My checking account, however, hopes that is false so that 2k doesn't get liberated from it lol.

It is all down to the VRAM bandwidth. Maxwell can be as much as 20% faster than Kepler due to the massive internal L2 cache alone. The core configuration is harder to predict as we have not yet seen any larger Maxwell SKUs yet. However, we've seen what the relatively tame GM107 chip can already achieve so a GM 214 will truly be monstrous, at least 40% faster than the 880m for the same or slightly lower power consumption.

We pretty much already know what the m295 is capable of, at the very best, we are looking at basically a Tahiti chip with a 256bit Memory Bus. The only ways AMD can surprise us is either by deploying Stacked DRAM ahead of schedule, a complete overhaul of the GCN architecture or utilizing 20nm production to allow higher clockspeeds.

I'm predicting the m295 is going to be the price/performance champion again but the 980m will be the faster choice.

860m maxwell gave us some insight as to how good the 980m could be.

In reality we have NO idea as to how good tonga could be. AMD knows this is their advantage. I reckon many here will be surprised....I hope it buries maxwell. Would be amusing.

That said for now I patiently await a 680m to play with in the meantime. Goodbye 7970m

According to PassMark, the m295x performs slighly better than the 880m, but the 980m is almost twice as powerful as the 880m. The performance jump seems a little unbelievable, but we'll wait for more samples to be tested I guess.

980m is at best around 50% better, not twice :) Still though, m295x is, at best, a rival to 970m. Which I doubt, but still a good alternative depending on the price.
