Now im a steam fanboy and I want steam to beat over origin as much as the next guy but the support on ea/origin is amazing. I had a few issues so i went onto the chat feature (really nice) and in 2 minutes all my problems were fixed. Steam needs to learn from this and get themselves a chat function.

Although I haven't tried out origin (nor do I plan to), I agree that the steam customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Generally they'll just wave you in the direction of the game developer if you have any problems. As a hunch I'm guessing that EA can only really manage this level of support because barely anyone uses origina at the moment and so they don't need mass amounts of 24/7 support staff.

I still can't believe how they sold a broken game to me though (mass effect). I had to patch it manually, seemingly the update didn't carry through to the steam service though luckily it did work with the steam version.

EA has good support cause EA knows how to work with their own games. In fact, Steam always recommend calling up the support to the publishers of games you have problems with. For me, I got Crysis Warhead fixed up by calling EA directly over Steam and they fixed up my problems.

However, that is really a moot point over everything else on the table though... I rarely need to call in to get support for software beyond activation woes (which you need to contact the game's publisher anyway to deal with over calling Steam).

Origin is EA games only, no? I should think that they would be willing and able to solve issues with their own games?

I do wish Steam had at a minimum a live chat feature. If I'm ever run into account issues (non-game related), it would be nice to get it resolved within a couple days, if not sooner.
