I have a v3019 that HP is going to be repairing for free. It has a amd x2 and a week 6150 Igp. I'm not a big time gamer, but would like to get a slight better gc. I found a cq-50 with a tl-70 and a 8200m for $549. The cq also has 3mb of ram and a 1m cashe. I'm sure you guys know the specs allready between the two, therefore I will rest my case. Will I see a noticable difference?
My other option is the dv5 from hp, but I really don't want to spend $900 +tax on a new lappy.
Is there a better option than the $549 cq? I found several lappis I liked better, but with a x3100 for under $650.
Please share some opinions please.
I know this is kinda "what pc to buy question" , but my main goal is to get the best graffix without shellin out the doe.

You can probably get a dell laptop with an 8400m gs for around 600, using coupons.
-
I like the HP DV5Z because it has the HD3200 AMD integrated chip, the most powerful integrated graphics card available, better than your other options.
The base configuration comes in under $599 with a free upgrade to 2GB of RAM.
If you are going to go for integrated graphics, and you want the best you can get, get something with the HD3200. Otherwise, someone else come in here and give some reasonable advice. *passes out* -
The 8200M G should be a bit better than both the 6150 & X3100, but there are not many that have used it yet to give a valid determination. I ordered a CQ50 with the 8200M G myself, but I won't get it for a couple weeks.
I'm pretty sure that the HD3200 in the DV5Z is superior, as it can hang with an 8400M GS in some benchmarks. -
Thanks a bunch. (group huge) The dz5z is on the top of my list, but before I hit pay now, I'm curious.
1) About how much better is the dz5z going to be, compared to my "ol" v3019 w/6150? (none, a bit, noticable, alot, big time)
2) What am I going to miss out on when buying the hd 3200, compared to the stand-alone hd 3450 ? (none, a bit, noticable, alot, big time).
Guys thanks so much for the help. -
A big difference between the 6150 and HD3200. The HD3200 is hardly a gamer's dream, but the 6150 was just terrible. Even my older X200M outperforms it.
The HD3450 will be hotter and score you about 300+ more points in 3DMark06. Not too big of a difference for a $100 premium, unless you are willing to spend the money. -
1. That depends on what you are doing with your laptop. Are you a gamer? What games do you play? I should have asked this first. If I were comparing that card to the new one while playing World of Warcraft, I'd say the HD3200 will perform at least 200-300% faster.
2. The 3450 would perform probably 25% faster than the HD3200. -
Man, you guys are the bomb. I can't thank you enough. I love gaming, but cant afford it.
You know, I had a thought. I had planned on buying the new lappy, befor I found out hp was going to fix mine for free. I guess I'm in "the wrong neck of the woods" to find out desktop gaming. Where would I start if I had $700 to spend, not including monitor? I don't wana get off on the wrong topics in this forum, but if you could point me in the right dirrection, I would love to check my options. -
I assume you mean a pre-built desktop? Your money goes a bit further on a desktop, especially if you don't need a monitor. I build my desktops, so I'd tell you that 700 bucks would actually get you a decent gaming system, but I can't offer any reliable advice on who sells good gaming desktops for a decent price.
Anyone? -
I'd say you should build your own desktop. You can check out the desktop forum for "the best computer you can build for XXX amount of money" thread.

Ok 1 question.
IGP 's cannot be upgraded, even on desktops right?
I was just wondering about swaping the gc on a dirt cheap tower with a quad 2 core. It comes with a x3100.
I would like to learn more about building too. If you guys know a good place to start reading about building pc's I would like to get into the hobbie. -
In a desktop system, you don't need to replace the IGP. It is integrated into the motherboard, but if you want a better graphics card, you just pop one into an open PCI-Express 16x slot.
Desktops are SO much easier to mess with than laptops. On home built systems you can pretty easily swap anything or add anything you need. Desktops from OEMs like Dell or Gateway can sometimes be a LITTLE more difficult. -
Thats because Laptops are not as developed as the latest desktops.
-
just google how to build your own desktop and you'll find plenty of reading material
-
It's actually because Laptop chassis and motherboards are more often proprietary. Desktops have the advantage of using a more standardized hardware specifications.
-
I will try that. Thanks guys.
Also, if you have any know websites that are in depth to building pc's that would be great too.
I have replaced parts in my computers and had no trouble. starting from scratch scares me, I don't know jack about OS. -
Building a desktop with cheap parts wont last very long
