Hey guys, I've been hearing a lot of news about the 1070 ti lately. Now what are the chances of a laptop equipped with one coming out in the near future?

Wouldn´t make much sense since they have the 1080MQ for notebooks, unless they want to release a cheaper version of the 1080MQ. The 1070Ti is mostly Nvidia´s answer to AMD´s Vega 56.

Gee I wonder why Nvidia didn't just release the Max-Q 1080 for desktop instead of coming up with the 1070ti??

Probably because the 1070ti is a better idea; the 1070ti is "take 2" on the Max-Q 1080 idea.

    I hope we do see 1070 ti's replacing Max-Q 1080 laptops soon. :)

1070Ti in Clevo's would be interesting. As would the 1080 with the newer 11GBPS memory. But we will probably get the usual 1060, 1070, 1080 designs from last year.

The funny thing is a bunch of testing shows the AMD RX 56 /64 already beating the GTX 1080 at stock speeds, and with OC the AMD RX 56 / 64 beats it further.

So what's the point of a new GTX GPU that's *slower* than a GTX 1080?

The only advantage the 1070ti has going for it is the DDR5 memory instead of DDR5x, because the DDR5x is a poor performer with Mining tasks. So the 1070ti could replace the 1080 for "Mining".

Gamers Rejoice – GeForce GTX 1070 Ti Coming Nov. 2
    https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2017/10/26/geforce-gtx-1070-ti/

"We designed the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti to be an overclocking monster with plenty of headroom for gamers to crank up the clock speeds. And our partners have built cards with thermals and power supplies that allow gamers to push performance way past stock specifications."

Nvidia finally announce the GTX 1070 Ti, and it's an overclocking monster

    https://www.pcgamesn.com/nvidia-1070-ti-launch

"Nvidia claim they “designed the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti to be an overclocking monster, with plenty of headroom for gamers to crank up the clock speeds.” Well, that dispels those rumours

Check back on November 2nd for our full review along with in-depth benchmarking of the GTX 1070 Ti."

Now we need Nvidia to settle in to their new building, and get the 1070 ti mobile solution out the door to replace the Max-Q 1080 in laptops. :)

And there's no mobile Vega they would feel the need to compete with.

Vega's power consumption is horrid, those cards aren't coming to laptops. Seems like we would've heard something by now.

    Major misstep from AMD.

NVIDIA GTX 1070Ti - Can it REALLY be overclocked?

Consumer: "Nvidia why did you launch another 10 series product just to beat Vega 56 instead of just dropping prices?" Nvidia: "Because "fargo" you that's why." Consumer: "Ok cool. Here's all our money." Nvidia: "That's right "female dogs"."

50 dollar difference between 1070 Ti and 1080 on newegg? I'll take the 1080 10/10 times.

So, we are leaning toward leaving the 1070ti on the shelf to collect dust, as the useless marketing ploy that it is? :)

I guess that leaves it to the mining folk to see if they see benefits from the 1070ti OC without DDR5X.

I think I would. Unless it's directly targeting mining I see no reason for it to even exist.

This product is such a weird one. I'm pretty sure it won't make it to laptops.

I'd submit that the 1070ti is far and away less weird than the Max-Q CPU's, all useless in their marginal fitment between the standard GPU's, far more over priced and far more BS laden, if the Max-Q GPU's made it into laptops, the 1070ti also can be fitted and sold. :)

Much like the laptop GPU's from Maxwell and the Max-Q GPU's from Pascal, the Vega GPU's have a sweet spot of performance well off full TDP operation, so they could indeed be fitted to a laptop, slotted in performance above the laptop RX570 / RX 580's.

I'd call it a stopgap in the desktop side, I'm not as certain of its place in laptops, there are much smaller gaps for it to fit into there. But on the other hand, there's really no factor that would limit its use in laptops of similar form factor to a 1070/1080 laptop, so I agree it definitely could show up in something in the future.
