Im looking to utilize my new Samsung 52" Series 6 LCD HD as an external computer monitor via HDMI.

I am curious though as to what resolution setting would be considered native for a 1080p HD LCD like the one mentioned above?

I read so much on the NBR forums regarding the different native resolutions of the LCD screens that come with the various laptops and the debates that rage on about them.

Im trying to decide between a few laptop models with various native resolution screens but I didn't think it was a major concern if I plan on using the 52" while at home in my Media Room. However I was curious as to what performance I should expect from it.

Thanks, I thought as much but didn't want to assume so.

Basically if I go out and get that 1900x1200 screen laptop its gunna be an expense im not going to take full advantage of, except for those few times I need the portability.

Likewise, any laptop with a lower res screen than I get out of my 52" LCD (1920x1080), like the ASUS G50, will not have much of a negative impact on me (if any as screen res seems to be a hot debate) again except in those few times Im mobile with the laptop and can only rely on its own screen.

    Thanks again.

if most of the time you want to hook it up to your monitor, consider getting a desktop and a netbook (asus eee and the like). you get more power out of your desktop while you are using it as a desktop, you get more portability out of your laptop while you are using it as such, and you save money.

This is only partially true, I'll let you do the ugly research. If you have a newer HDTV which has a 1:1 scaler, you'll get much better results than someone with an older, less PC friendly scaler.

As far as PC inputs on your TV, you need to read the manual on your TV. The input needs to accept a full 1080p signal through that input (i.e. my Sony 1080p TV only accepts a crappy resolution through it's VGA PC input.

If you end up being frustrated and pissed about the standards on TV inputs, blame Sony, they're responsible for the mess that is signal standards.

Nah, the best distance is sitting back at about twice the width of the screen, not back in the cheap seats.
