basically i seriously dont understand how this works

When i run 720p video (MKV) its perfect on my computer...

    Pentium 4 2.8ghz HT
    2gb Ram
    NO GRAPHICS CARD (Just onboard)
    Vista Home Premium

Basically if my pc runs 720p....how come my mates who has a Pentium 4 3.0ghz HT cpu with a Powercolor Radeon HD 2400...his doesnt play that...when i say doesnt play i mean its really choppy...

We are both using coreavc well thats best for me..my mate has tried all

....My question is will my laptop that im going to buy...

    Dell studio 15

    Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz (800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
    3gb Ram
256MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3450
    Vista Home Premium

ill be wiring this to a 24" Dell Monitor via HDMI

You boys are a bit more knowledgable than me....what you reckon...will the dell lappy run it in terms of 1080p MKV files
