I'm going to buy the Alienware m15 R4. with RTX 3080 and 4K OLED (60Hz) display. When playing games like Modern Warfare (2019) and Warzone, should I select any option that allows me to lock the frame rate at 60Hz, or leave those options blank?

Set the frame rate limiter in the NVIDIA driver control panel to 58, then turn off v-sync in the game to minimize input lag.

Cool. Why 58 and not 60?

Because you can still observe screen tearing with vsync off, and with vsync on, you get input lag.

Right on. Sorry for the dumb questions, here's another one: what's the benefit of setting the 58 frame rate in nvidia panel? Overall less strain in the system as the game doesn't have to render more frames per second than what the screen can show?

I already answered that - to eliminate tearing with vsync off while reducing input lag that occurs with vsync on.

Capping the FPS doesn't eliminate tearing with VSync off.

    Depends.

If your display has G-Sync/FreeSync, enable that and VSync in the driver, then cap the game at 57 FPS using in-game or driver FPS limiter.

If your display is static 60Hz refresh rate, turn off VSync and cap slightly above 60 FPS (62-65 is fine).

For those games you listed, if you play them competitively and want lowest input lag, leave VSync off and FPS uncapped. Also enable Nvidia Reflex in the game. Although you should really get a high refresh rate display if you play shooters competitively.

62/57 why is what he wants to know....62=screen tearing 57= nonsense

set it to 60 with vsync off

i personally cap 60 and don't see tearing buy maybe im wrong maybe @saturnotaku could chime in and explain the technicality

the second video is really interesting...it appears having gpu utilization around 90 percent has a huge impact on latency

interesting thread here... I am a casual 60Hz player when I get the chance and always capped my output at 62FPS with VSync off all this time

Capping FPS at exactly the refresh rate is not recommended because it makes tearing more noticeable.
