    Hey guys,
So I'm looking at the T61p 14.1 in' machine, and it says that the dedicated graphics card that comes with this laptop is NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M (128 MB OpenGL). While I know the 256 MB version of this card is darn powerful, how is the smaller version of this card? I am an occasional (definitely not heavy-duty) gamer who likes to play RTS and games like Grand Theft Auto etc. Your input is appreciated.

It still has the 8600GT core, its just that it has a 64-bit bus therefore slower and cannot utilise higher amount of memory, that is why 128mb is suitable for that card. But because it also have GDDR3 memory, its performance is around 8600GT DDR2.

The FX 570M is more suitable for CAD applications not gaming.
I think you should look for an alternative laptop with a 8600GT graphics card to save some money.

The 570m is essentially a 8600GT GDDR3 with OpenGL features unlocked...you could just install Geforce drivers on them for that extra little but of performance. And T61 are quite cheap at the moment.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. The FX series from a hardware point of view is not different from the gaming series (i.e. the 8600GT and 8800 series). The main difference is on the drivers which are design in the case of the FX for a max performance with CAD applications! And what you pay for when you buy the FX is actually the drivers and additional support that you won't get with the gaming series.

Unfortunately no, as I said the quadros have certain features unlocked which Geforce cards dont have. So with the 570m you can install Geforce drivers and play games fine, where as you cannot install Quadro drivers on a Geforce card to make it perform better in 3D apps.

I am considering buying a T61p, and the only thing stopping me is that 128MB graphics card. So, just to clarify... Is the 14" T61p(which has the 128MB 570M) is powerful enough to play modern FPS, like Crysis and Bioshock? Also, I know that some 8600GT has the turbocache (which allows you to use RAM as VRAM). So, because the 570M and the 8600GT have the same chipset, does the 570M support turbocache? Thanks in advance.

imo no. the 256Mb version of 570m (with geforce drivers) is better suited for Crysis/Bioshock. For light gaming, rts the 128mb should be fine. And JohnnyT is right. Laptopvideo2go Geforce drivers with modded inf work just fine on the 570M thank you very much.
A current NBR (SonDa5) with 570M overclocked got around 6k 3Dmark06 but that's an extreme case.

The 15.4" T61p works great for gaming. If you are concerned about being able to play games IMO you should get the 15.4" T61p.

    Haha, SonDa5 gets a higher score than my 7950GTX and T7500 :D
So the Fx570m is a great OCer.
