It's about as powerful as the 8400GS.

Define "basic gaming". Solitaire? Should run fine. Anything 2006+ will struggle for the most part.

Neither is really going to do much in gaming... even the games you listed will only do well at lower resolutions/settings.

    And seriously... Crysis? C'mon.

I'd look into something better than the hd2400. It's hardly capable of running any somewhat modern game at decent resolutions/settings. Look for an HD2600 or 8600gt, those will run those games you mentioned on highish settings at native res.

This is a pretty good deal. I own a Toshiba Satellite A215 with an AMD Turion x2. With 250gb HD, 3gb Ram, and a Radeon HD2400 128mb video card. I play games like America's Army, Shattered Union, and a combat flight simulator, and I get consistent FAST performance with this machine. Its a really good PC for what I paid, $1000 at Best Buy, and it packs plenty of punch. It runs circles around other notebooks and some desktops in the same price range.

I'd check out the A215 if I were you. A little more money, but MUCH better performance.

Oh, and I run them ALL the HIGHEST resolution (1200x800 or 1024x768) and ALL the texture settings to HIGHEST possible. Don't listen to the folks who don't OWN this machine. It's plenty fast.
