Does anybody know if the size in this card makes a difference. I remember reading about the Radeon 1150 (which is significantly lower,) about which it said that there's no difference between 64mb and 256mb. I just want to know what's the case for this card. Thanks

There is a difference, but not enough to warrant you look for a new laptop if everything else is perfect. It is still a powerful card, it just doesn't have as much VRam to send the data through, so it will be slower, but not drastically so. The 256mb version of the 7600 is roughly twice as fast as the 7400, so my guess is that the 128mb version is about 1.5 times as fast as the 7400.
Hope that helps. -
actually, I was just wondering if it was worth the extra $75 to spend for it. I'll have to give it some thought now
-
If you game very often, and play newer games, then I would say its worth it, as it won't fall behind the times quite as fast.
If you don't play newer games all that often, or don't care about the highest settings, then the 128mb version is fine. -
I would do it, seeing as the GPU is usually the bottleneck of the system and you can't change it after.
-
$75? just go 256mb then. maybe u'll get slightly better framerates
-
I'd spend the money, especially since more and more games are starting to make 256mb a "requirement" even if the GPU is physically fast enough to run the game.
-
Couldn't agree with this statement anymore. Best to spend the extra money now than regretting it in the future. Sadly, this happens with a lot of notebook owners wishing they had gotten a better graphics card.
-
The 7600 definitely has the potential to use most of the 256MB...128MB will definitely choke on the newer games.
-
What about the 512MB version offered on some lappys? Do you think the 7600 is even able to utilize that much dedicated ram, or is it a waste?

Depends on the clocking and the game, the 7600GT variant could probably use it but will not make much of a difference, I have an x1900gt in my desktop and a 512mb version (between the two x1900xts) is not that much better. -
It's not really useful. The problem is the memory bandwidth. The 7600 only has a 128-bit memory bandwidth (which is good, don't get me wrong), but your higher end cards have a 256-bit bandwidth and that is where 512MB of vRAM really begins to show.
To the OP, I would lay down the extra $75 for the 256MB version. White the 128MB version is good, the 256MB version will be better, and will provide better longevity. Extra memory really helps on certain things in games such as textures, but it's good to have 256MB of memory on the 7600/x1600 as that's what they were designed for. -
i agree...for 75 bucks u cant go wrong with a 256MB go 7600....more memory means that u can run games at higher resolutions and texture sizes.

doesn't the 128mb version only have a 64-bit bus?

That's not true - the Sony VAIO FE has an optional 128MB Go7600, and it has a 128-bit bus.
Out of all the notebooks that have a Go7600 series GPU, the majority have a 256MB, 128-bit bus version. Only certain machines have a 128MB GPU and even less have a 128MB GPU with a 64-bit bus.
If you're unsure about any laptops then post them here and we'll tell you.

The 256 MB of VRAM would come in handy for you if you will be gaming a lot. As noted, it is becoming required more frequently these days.
As far as bumping up to 512 MB on the go 7600--it's not necessary as the go 7600 can't really utilize the second 256 MB of VRAM. If it comes with the system you already want--then why not get it. But I wouldn't let 256 vs. 512 be the decision-maker for a go 7600 system. -
Hi there,
Looks prettty clear above, but can you confirm that the Vaio FE41S has the 128bit bus then?
Does it use Turbocache to augment the 128Mb on vram?
Thanks,
Leon
