I'm deciding between ASUS A8J and VAIO FE790, but I have some questions about the GPU of both notebooks.
The A8J comes with NVIDIA Go 7700 512MB and FE790 comes with NVIDIA Go 7600 128MB, however after reading some posts in the forum I'm under the impression that their performance are comparable to each other. Shouldn't 7700 with 512MB be far superior than 7600 in this case?
Also, if you're in my position, which notebook will you get? I'd like to know which GPU will allow me to play more recent games at high settings.
I've tried searching the forums but I cannot find the exact answer to my questions (always 7700/7600 compared to something else). Thank you for your help.

try and grab one of these before they are all gone.
ok well the 3dmark o6 scores of my machine compared to a fe is over 1000 points more.
It would be very significant in games.
With a 7700 you could play at high detail with the 128 mb 7600 you could not.
The 7700 is great. but as great as it is this a8jp is a better deal. It is also superior to a fe 790 but not as much as the 7700 -
Although the go 7700 cannot fully utilize the second 256 MB (of its 512 MB) of VRAM, the 128 MB go 7600 would benefit some from a second 128 MB (i.e. going up to 256 MB) of VRAM.
The go 7700 performs better than the older go 7600. They may not be worlds apart in terms of gaming performance, but the newer card does have the advantage. Between the two systems you listed, the Asus A8Js will be the more powerful for games.
EDIT: That A8Jp is an unbelievable deal. It's worth gettting even if the x1700 is not as powerful as the go 7700. -
god there are MULTIPLE threads that says the ability of a gpu does not depend on the amount of ram it has. try searching just a little harder (as in look at the stickies or the gpu guide) and you will find your answer faster.
the 7700 can't use more then 256mb in most cases and the extra 256 is a marketing scam for fooling users like you.
the 7700,x1700,7600,x1600 can only use 256 mb effectively.
the fe will suck much more then the 7700 due to it being the 128mb version of 7600
the 7700 is much more superior then the 7600 in the fe due to that having only 128mb of vram, but the 7700 will have better but comparable performance with a 256mb 7600.
EDIT: "god helps those who help themselves" -
everytime i read anything about Go 7600 256MB VRAM or better, i really go nuts
why didn't i know that the FE only had a 128MB version??? I should've known that as the upgrade from GMA to GO 7600 only cost $75
why???
14" and 7700 = 15" and 7600 in terms of performance?
