Hello all,
I'm looking at the Asus F8SA-X2 as a general laptop with some decent gaming capabilities for around $1000 (I would be adding extra ram). I'm mostly playing COD2 and COD4. My question is: is a 14 inch WS display going to give me enough real estate to effectively see everything well enough to play? I've never played on such small screen and this question is the only thing giving me pause.
Thanks for any input.

I have a 14" vostro 1400 and i play COD4 on it everyday. I instantly liked it as your head doesnt have to move around looking at objects on the screen. Nothing seems to small or anything like that. I actually quite like.
-
Yes, you could game on a 7 inch screen if you needed.
-
Yes, it's plenty big enough. I actually prefer this size of screen over larger ones.

A 14 inch screen is perfect. If you're gaming on a laptop, its a very decent size. Larger sizes are not ideal because it adds bulk to your laptop.

Res matters the most. I even game sometimes on a 12,1" screen and its just fine.
-
14" is perfectly fine. If it ends up bugging you could always hook it up to an external display. And the HD2600 performs marvels at 1280x800.

14 too small for me ;\

You'll be fine gaming on a 14" screen, hell I used to game on my PSP's 4" screen and it was great. The game will be arguably less immersive on a 14" screen. For me 22"-24" is the best screen size for PC gaming.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I agree that anything will be less immersive on smaller screen. I'm just wanting something for laptop gaming while I'm in bed and the wife has already passed out but I'm not ready to call it quits yet.
I was most worried that far off targets might be too small to really aim at with any accuracy but if that's not the case, then no worries.
Looks like I'll be going for it. Thanks again everybody. This has to be one of the most responsive forums on the net.

Laptop in bed isn't a good idea. Most laptops cool via their undersides and the don't like it if they're some kind of blanket there blocking air intake or exhaust. Laptops can run hot quickly then. Just put one tight on your lap and feel the burn.
Its better to use a desk. -

and putting a laptop on your lap isnt a good idea because it has been known to kill your sperm count

P.S. Maybe the OP's a girl ? -
LoL ^ yes i found out the hard way

I try to keep my laptop on a desk. Used them on my lap serveral times when there's no desk around. My Pentium 4 laptop got pretty hot. I felt the burn
. Still, I'm not overly concerend with keeping it on my lap.

lol does that answer your question? -
Could always be lesbian.

lol. I'm passed the the point in my life where my counts in that region are important to me but certainly I don't want to heat things up too much.

Although the new topic for this thread is about something else
Don't worry about your scren size, if you think that the game is quite small to play in that screen you can always use an external monitor -
14.1" is fine. Ive played WoW, CS:Source, Warhammer: Dawn of War and GTA3 with no issues. Its more about the resolution you should be worried about. Make sure you get the best gpu possible
Dawn of war looks great at max gfx settings, WoW even better. I manage to top the list alot on de_dust2 on CSS with no problems on seeing enemies -

OMG, 1337 hAxx0rz.
Nobody plays CSS anymore without hacks. So it seems. Valve Anti-Cheat seems to do nothing about it. Main reason why I quit that game. -
I dont see the fun in hacking, i find it pointless specially in css. Css gets boring after a while anyway
Im trying to look for a new multiplayer game to play, doesnt seem to be free online games around. -
14 inch widescreen...Big enough for gaming?
