hi
I would really like to know whether you can name 14.1" laptops that come with the 8600gt-gs or the 8400GT... Preferably not SONY or ZEPTO...
thanks!

I've been guided to the Asus V2S-A1, a business laptop with 8600M GS. I really have no clue what that 8600M GS actually means, however! I'm not a gamer and wanted something small, light, powerful and well built. After months checking these forums, this is what I now have on order. It's very new to North America, however so as far as I know, there aren't any reviews out yet.

The 8600m GS in the V2S performs the same as a normal 8400m GS. Get a 14" Lenovo T61p.
-
*facepalm*
-
The highest performing 14" out there right now would be the Zepto 6224w, followed closely by the Asus F8sa (and the Asus F8sv, but I don't think that's been released yet). Slightly behind those models is the Lenovo Thinkpad T61p (which is the most powerful 14.1" in the U.S. right now). Then there's also the BenQ Joybook S41, which isn't bad with an 8600M-GS.
-
I cannot find any of those models (except the ZEPTO, but is way too expensive in spain...)
Only thing i found is the COMPAL IFT00 with a 8400GS, but that seems to poor... -
Yeah, if you can't find any of the mentioned models then you'll have to settle with an 8400M-GS (or the NVS 140m, if you can find the regular 14" T61).

Here is the top Configuration I can find for a reasonable price:
Notebook COMPAL IFT00
Intel® Core 2 Duo T7700 (2.4Ghz/4MB)
2048MB (2GB) DDR2 667Mhz (2x1024MB)
nVidia Geforce 8400M GS 256MB PCI Express
14.1" WXGA (1280x800) Extrabrite
160GB (7200rpm) SATA
DVD±R/RW Dual Layer ref9990599
Webcam 2.0Mpixels integrada
FingerPrint
1GB Intel Turbo Memory ROBSON
Bluetooth
Wireless Intel 4965AGN
Price: 1150 - 1620$
is this price good for a laptop in USA? (just for curiosity)
would you get it or wait?
thanks! -
If you honestly plan to do alot of gaming, I would either wait or go up to a 15.4" (maybe one of the smaller ones like the HP 8510p/w, the Macbook Pro, or the Thinkpad T61p).

i am planning to do gaming for just this year (until next september).. because COMPUTER GAMING is strictly forbidden in the UNI im going.
Next, i will do lots of surfing, and video/photo editing, and OFFICE working... do you think is the right choice?
any suggestions?
thanks! -
What kinds of games will you play? I would consider getting a cheap and powerful desktop for gaming this year, and then saving up money for a good thin and light or ultraportable machine for uni.
-
Odin has a point, I would follow his advice.
-
-
well, the point is that my parents are sick of me and said the following:
YOU ARE JUST GOING TO BUY ONE PC TILL YOU FINISH UNI!!!!!
so that is the best i have found... it is not so big like a 15.4, and it is not going to be too small...
What do you think of the price?
Do you reckon there will be much difference between the 15.4" and the 14.1" laptop?
thanks! -
If you plan on carrying the laptop around Uni, then yes, a 15.4" would probably be too large. The price on that Compal would be considered expensive in the U.S., but not unreasonably so, considering the processor. I'd say if you can only buy one PC, that would be a good choice.

Dell's XPS M1330 comes with an 8400.
-
thanks!
do you know where can i find any reviews for that COMPAL IFT00??
THANKS AGAIN! -
thanks!
thats a good review... do you know any others?
thanks again! -
BTW, is the same barebone as the one in the ZEPTO 3414W and the RIZEON FT00...
any reviews? -
I think those use the same Compal barebone, yes. I don't really follow the reviews for this model, as it's not available in North America. Sorry.
