Hi have a Dell Inspiron 9300, and my native resolution is 1440x900. The problem is the resolution looks best in 1440x900 but games such as CS:source and Battlefield 2 only let me get the resolution to 1152x760 (or something similtar to that) Is there a way to make the resolution in these games 1440x900 or is it not possible becuaes the game doesn't support it? Keep in mind I have also downloaded the 77.72 driver from laptopdrivers2go.com and it's installed. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

In HL2 and CSS, under video options, select "Widescreen 16:10" that will allow you to select the 1440x990.
A lot of games dont suppor that resolution, sorry. But I know there is a patch for DOOM3, and Far Cry can use it properly as well.
Good luck. -
At least you can use some form of widescreen. BF2 wont let my A690 run any widescreen res at all.

HEy guys, i hanvt revieved my notebook yet, but just wanted to ask...does it really matter with the wide screen resolution? I mean does the game look bad or something when it runs in a lower resolution? What exactly happens when the game deos not run in the screens native resolution? Thanks!!

The higher the resolution the better quality the graphics will be. The lower the resolution the worse the graphics will be. However running a game at a higher resolution takes alot more computing power than running on a lower resolution. Which is why many people complain of choppy gameplay when running on a high resolution. When running at a native resolution such as mine (1440x900) you get a balance between graphics and functionality due to the fact that your running the game on the resolution that your notebook is intended to run on.

but many people run cs 1.6 and cs:source at low res to make no lag with computer/ping. so, it depends on the game

I would like to note that BattleField 2 can be run at 1440x900 (or any other widescreen resolution) by add "+fullscreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900" (no quotes) to the end of the "Target" line. To use other non-standard reslutions, replace "1440" and "900" with your respective width and height.

this is a good website for having 1440X900 resolution for games
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com
it helped me a lot -
How does widescreen work in a game? Does it add more to the visual field, or does it just take a 4:3 image and squash it into a widescreen ratio?

Ok, so if I have a 15.4" screen with a native 1400/900 resolution....the games wount be squashed even if i play them on like 1024/780 or somthin like that? thanks

(Posted this in the Dell forum but reposting here since it seems like a better place to ask this question.)
I'd rather not get the Truelife screen (on a Dell Inspiron 9300), simply because of the glare. But getting the standard screen with a resolution of 1440x900 seems a little scary to me because I'm lead to believe that playing a game on 1280x1024 resolution would't work. Is that true? And if so, that means I have to decide to play all my games on 1024x768 resolution, or upgrade to the Truelife screen? (Or maybe since it's a widescreen display I'm just not understanding things correctly.) Please help! Thank you! -

you cant put an SXGA resolution because its height of 1024 exceeds the 990 height screen on the laptop. -
Thanks, not the answer I wanted to hear (as I'd rather have the other screen for less glare), but I can't have a gaming notebook that can't play games at the higher resolutions. Truelife it is.

I am having the same issue to, the res just still looks the same, I have got it to work in the demo of the game, but not have got it to work for the full version. Well, hopefully the new patch will contain something to fix this for us widescreen gamers, I mean, EA Games got to get with the new age, a ton of ppl got widescreens now.
