As far as 15 inch laptops go, can we expect anything better than the 8600m GT on them or will the 8700 make an appearance on one? i'm asking because i'm wondering if it's worth waiting for one to appear or if i should just buy now. thanks

After reading up on the specs and clocks for the 8700...I highly doubt it will fit in a 15.4" laptop. It is supposed to replace the 7950GTX.

8700 is identical to 8600 physically tho.
-
yea, if its the same physically why can't it fit? does it become a cooling/power issue(i don't know if laptops have those...) or do manufacturers feel that it would be a waste to put such a powerful card in a 15 inch laptop
-
I would absolutely buy a 15.4 inch laptop with 8700gt.
-
the 8700 is a beast and ive only seen 17" laptops with it so far.
-
or you could just buy a notebook with an 8600 gt, overclock it a bit, and you got yourself an 8700
-
I REALLY hope it'll work in the ASUS C90. I'm not holding my breath, though. Maybe an 8700M GS in the future. Sounds more likely to me.
-
Wait, is the 8700 better than the 8800? It seems as if name wise it is an upgrade to the 8600.
-
what was the most powerful 7 series card that was on a 15 inch laptop?
-
-
thats equivalent to the 8600m gt correct? so if we base this on history the 8600m gt is going to be the best option for 15 inch laptops until the 9 series comes out.
-
I think it's possible that before the 9 series comes out, NVidia might manage to squeeze some more power than is available with the 8600MGT currently.... maybe it would be called the 8650M or something, since the 8700M designation is now in use for a 17" part.

how often does nvidia release cards?
-
its not only size that determines what card goes into what size laptop, its also heat that is a big killer followed by power consumption
-
Its unlikely for the 8700M GT to make it into a 15.4" notebook. The reason is mainy due to the power consumption and thermal outut. At the moment, its 35 Watts, and only 17" notebooks will be able to handle such wattages. However, like Zadillo said, nVidia may release an update of the 8600M GT, which could find its way into 15.4" notebooks. But, it could take some time, because nVidia has only just released these current cards.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Just wait till word about the 8800m. If the the 22-25 watts is true 15.4 inches should handle it. All that remains is the size and heat. It is a 65nm die shrink so I think size will be ok. I am just worried about pricing and release date though its supposed to come out this summer because over rumors that the 9 series is coming out fall-years end?
-
the 8700 is clocked WAY higher. -
-
Because the 8 Series isnt fast enough for most DX10 Stuff. And the 9 series has a 3x Preformance increse... I want it.
-
And what DX10 stuff isn't the 8 series fast enough for (at least, the 8600M GT, 8700M and 8800M)? -
If u havnt noticed there hasnt even been much DirectX 10 benchmarks to even to know that the 8 series isnt fast enough let alone know the performance of the 9 series!!
-
there aren't much dx10 stuff to do benchmarks on for that matter. i don't think they will release the 9 series till dx10 gets further established
-
Still waiting for the source of this "3x faster" statement plz
