Can anyone tell me which laptops have the GDDR3 8600M GT? I can only find the G1S but I see that it has issues regarding the battery and cpu speed.

While the topic is here, can anyone tell me if there are any barebones 15.4" or smaller laptops with the GDDR3 version of the 8600GT or a better DX10 verison that's not painted white?

There is the Macbook Pro.

GenTech, Milestone, Geared2Play are all good place to start.

I wanted an 8600m GT really badly, so I just got a Macbook Pro. I thought it'd be strange going to Apple for a gaming laptop, but I've been impressed.
OSX is fun and easy and useful for all of my media, but I bootcamp into Vista for my gaming.
This thing smacks F.E.A.R. around like a playtoy (always 25+ FPS with 162.18 drivers settings max).
F.E.A.R. isn't all that new though, so tried it out with Supreme Commander and WOW.
I play it at native res (1440x900) with Max settings (no AA, low shadows) and get 20+ FPS on the final level of the UEF campain about 2 minutes from victory. I can't tell you how insanely awesome it is to see about 400 humungous units and nukes and bombers and explosions going at it on a MBP at 20+ FPS.
Who would've thought Apple would create this summer's most powerful 15.4" gaming rig? Ok ok, Asus did a good job too.
All you have to get past is a the $2500 price tag. Student discount is really helpful. Upgrade the ram yourself. This thing sings. -
you can make basically the same rig from dell except the 4 gig ram, which you could upgrade youself for much cheaper then 2500 from apple

doh sorry i overlooked that part of what i was reading XD
-
dell does not offer ddr3, only ddr2 and the g1s and even the g2s is def much cheaper then the mbp.
also, isnt 20 or 25 fps bad? i dnt play games much but i thought you have to atleast have 30 to get a smooth play? -
FPS requirements are usually quoted from first person shooter games (FPS requirements in FPS games, if you will).
Most purists will not touch a first person shooter unless the Frames Per Second are over 30. In twitch-based games (shooters), frames are VERY important to gameplay. When I said F.E.A.R. was 25+ I meant it as the absolute minimum. Generally it hovers around 35-40 per second when a medium amount of action is occuring on the screen (2-4 bad guys attacking).
Games like CounterStrike: Source are ALWAYS 40+ FPS, more like 70 or 80+ on maps that aren't originals. In other words, zombie mod maps run so fast I'm sure the FPS is higher than the screen can display.
Games like Unreal Tournament 2004 (which are old) should run beyond the 40-50 FPS range.
Supreme Commander and most RTS games do not need such a high FPS to look super smooth.
