If you have an Inspiron 1520 with a 8600M GT or if you just have a laptop with an 8600M GT Please read this thread.

I am basically wanting to know if any of you are experiencing a "stuttering" or "frame skipping" issue with your games? I have become concerened and very frustrated with this issue.

So what I would like is if you have this graphics card and you have experienced this issue please post here what game and what drivers you're using.

I understand there are several "fixes" for this issue but I have become aware that not all of these fixes will help everyone out there. I've tried every fix that I've come across with no solution. The issue seems to be related to the 8xxx series cards and the 7900 cards.

Please make sure that you are experiencing this issue before posting. If you're unsure what this issue is then here is an explanation and a simple test. When you are playing it seems as though there is a missing frame or some animation is missing. A test for this is to find a wall, stand parallel with it and stafle left and right, you'll see it clearly when doing this.

    Thank You,
    -Taylor

I usually don't like Vista bashers, but you hit the nail on this one. You have two options: go back to XP, or wait it out for things to be more optimized.

    Thanks, I think ;)

I'm not a Vista basher, but have had every issue that was present in Vista be corrected instantly by using XP. I'm giving Vista another year to "mature" before going at it again.

I'm currently using XP and it did not solve my problem. When I said I've tried every fix that I've come across I meant it lol. Even paying 100 bucks jsut to try XP. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I could try reinstalling XP but that would take FOREVER since I have to download each driver and install them. I've also thought about updating my BIOS but I'm kind of afraid to.

Which games are having stuttering problem? because most of my games run fine, ever since i installed the beta 164.69 driver. HL2 had a little stuttering but after the new driver installed everything was smooth enough to not to be noticed. Other games I had not test with new driver most others works fine before driver update beside NFS:MW BE, university exams coming up. Also, it's hard to pin point for me what exactly is stuttering since I only have one gig of ram and with Vista, and that's just not enough.

BIOS update did not help. I'll update to 164.69 see if that helps. Lol I'm just worried that there's something wrong with my hardware. i really dont' want to have to send my notebook back. Is there anyway I can test my system for hardware failure?

no chill out, its not hardware, its the game. Stronghold 2 has stutter in it when a lot of guys on it no matter the graphics card you have. its the game. CHILL OUT, get a cooling pad. that may help

I have my laptop sitting on my desk so I assumed it didn't need a cooling pad. I had a Toshiba and I made the mistake of keeping it on my lap or laying it on my bed for extended periods of time and it wound up ruining the system.

The reason I ask and I know I've posted this in a previous thread is because Hellgate London and HL2:OB come out October. Know how excited Halo fan boys are right now? Well I'm like that for Hellgate London lol. I want to be able to play the game with no frame skipping so I'm hoping Hellgate won't have this issue.

Hey about OB:HL2ep2, I've been playing the Beta of team fortress 2 and it runs SMOOTH with full efftect no AA at 1600X1050, I would assume that the Ep2 rendering engine will be similar so don't worry about that either. BTW Team Fortress 2 owns your mom, watch out UT2007 you've got some unexpected competition. Incidently I played even bioshock on my laptop so I really wouldn't worry about up coming releases

It's a pretty highly discussed topic, one of the solutions that solved this for me was going to the Nvidia control panel / manage 3dsettings / Texture filtering - negative LOD bias - and change that from allow to clamp. Improved my games a lot.

I tried that. It didn't help Oblivion. What did help Oblivion keep in mind this didn't fully get rid of the issue. I turned off Vsync in the game settings and enabled it in the Nvidia control panel. That greatly helped the issue. It's actually playable after doing that!

btw: Jonwilles did you get any stuttering or frame skipping while playing BioShock? Thanks for telling me about TF2 that's a huge relief. I won't be playing it lol because my internet is crap but if you can play it then HL2:E2 should play good. And I'm assuming you have a 8600M GT lol.

    Edit again!

    Welcome to NBR Jonwilles!!

I'm on running the same hardware setup as you except for the T7300 (got T5470), and I have the same problem in Oblivion, and only in Oblivion. Sounds exactly like yours. Little fps "skips" every few seconds, even with graphics on low.

I ran performance monitor while Oblivion was running, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, except "pages / sec" was spiking to the top of the graph every so often. I'm not sure if that's normal or not, so...

    Hmmm I'll look into this!

Good news. I downloaded Cube 2 so that I could reassure myself there's nothing wrong with my hardware. The game ran smoothly no frame skip. Though there's particular place in the game where the fps will drop from 30-10-30 but it's a free game so I don't expect it to be bug free.

What's a good temp for a GPU to run at. I played Oblivion for a few mins with RivaTuner monitoring the info and it's showing a max of 68C on my vid card, and a low of 52C.

    Other info:
Core Clock (ROP) reached a max of 513MHz
Core Clock (Shader) reached a max of 1026MHz
Memory Clock reached a max of 799MHz with a low of 199.80
Temp reached a max of 68C with a low of 52C

    Are these good numbers?
