Hi there. I just got a new game TimeShift and when I start the game a massage comes up asking me to update my graphic card drivers.
    I have a P670 from Rock with a 8600M GT card.

Now, on the Nvidia web page there is a table and you can choose you product like the graphic card you have but they do not list the 8600M GT. The drivers that are avaiable are for the 8600 GT.

Is there a differance between them and can I install them ?

    What would you recommend ?

The drivers on the Nvidia website are for desktops i think.

I use the drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com and they are used by many in the forum. I have installed 163.75 and they are very stable. There are instructions on how to install the drivers on their website.

I can live without having small shadow of a spoon in a game.

As I only want to use official staff. Nothing homemade!

i installed the 169.04 driver for 8600m gt yesterday and have experienced dramatic performance increase. my idle gpu temp dropped about 10 degrees celcius, which allowed me to OC. My oc'd gpu temp is the same as the previous driver (163.75) but on 3dmark06, the scored jumped form 3600's (with 163.75 driver) to 4566 (with 169.04 driver oc'd). But i did test the 169.04 without oc and it seemed to perform slightly better. (i didn't not run runativer so i don't know what the exact increase in fps was)

There's probably an excellently written guide somewhere around here about updating laptop drivers, but essentially what you need to do is this.

Go to laptopvideo2go.com and find the page with the driver you want. Some of them are found in the Forums link, in the Sub-forum for the 160 drivers. Download the driver file itself (should be a link at the top of the forum page for the particular driver). Run it, and it will extract all the files for the installation. Then download the modified .inf file from the same forum page you got the driver files from, and save it into the same directory you extracted all the driver files into. It will overwrite another file by the same name. The reason you need to do this is because, as is from Nvidia, drivers don't apply to laptop cards. It is left up to the laptop manufacturers to update graphics drivers, and they usually don't bother. The modified inf file lets the drivers work for laptop cards.

Then you either uninstall the old driver then install the new one, or, as works just as well for me, simply run the setup file in the directory that has the new driver files. I find this has so far always automatically removed the old files and put the new ones in without a problem.

And IMO you should get the latest driver released, which is currently 169.04. I don't know if there have been improvements since the 163.75 drivers for Timeshift's performance, but I have definitely since improvements in games like the Crysis demo, F.E.A.R and other demanding games. It's almost always worth having the latest drivers installed.
