Is there that much of a difference between these 2 resolutions? Can you even tell that much when gaming? Will 1920 x 1200 be two high of a res to play games on with a ATI 4850?

It is a huge difference. think of 200 pixles being about the size of the windows vista sidebar. so you can fit that much more on the screen.

And as for the card, it will really depend on the game. and you can always run it at a non native resolution.

If you want to game better, 1680..

If you like to use photoshop and multitask a lot of windows, 1920.

I love my 1920, but if a game ever requires more than what my laptop can handle at that resolution, I end up playing it in a window because I hate how it looks when its not at native res.

Use a custom res instead and turn off scaling. Something like 1920 x 1000 or 1920 x 900.
