I have a quadro FX 1600m, (and would like to install geforce drivers) so I assume that I need the modded .inf too?

    Or is that unnecessary?

You can always download the drivers from Nvidia's site, but you'll need the modded INF. However, many people here should have the drivers + modded INF (I do). If somebody would like me to send the modded INF for 169.04 to them, send me a PM.

Hi! I bought the orange box a couple of days ago, installed it, and started playing half life 2. A couple of hours later, I noticed a slight drop in framerate, which I thought might get fixed with a video card driver update. Seeing as the GeForce Go 7300 isn't supported by nvidia anymore, I headed over to www.laptopvideo2go.com to get a modded inf. To my surprise, the site is down. I believe it's beacause of large bandwith usage. My request is, can someone atatch a modded inf (the newer the better - I believe the latest for GeForce Go 7300 is 162.18) and specify the forceware version it was designed for? My operating system is Windows XP 32. Thanks in advance!

They are the same driver, just the modded INF allows them to be used with mobile cards and not just desktop cards.

I would download the ones from Nvidia's website. If you PM me with an email address, I can send you the modded INF I have still from laptopvideo2go's site. As for how to install the driver, see tweak 10 from flamenko's Vista tweak guide.

Can someone email me for 169.04 + Inf Mod for Windows Vista 32bit?

I tried download from nvidia or from the post the stock 169.04 + Mod Inf. During the installation is completes but it didn't install it for some reason. It's like nothing happened.

I want the Mod one from LaptopVideo2Go with 7z executable file + Inf Mod.

How frustrated wonder why Lunarpages suspended LaptopVideo2Go website.

My own website is hosted by Lunarpages.com and I wonder what's going on.

Email the files to: [email protected]

    Thank you!

I was just about to post a new thread about a similar problem. After yet another blue screen of death in a game I decided to downgrade the driver (though oddly enough 169.09 behaved well enough until yesterday, so I don't have a clue why I've suddenly had three BSODs - all reported as video driver related).

I figured I would go with the offical 163.75 driver - downloaded it from the Nvidia site, threw the modded inf into the folder and installed it, seemingly without problems.
After the requested reboot, Vista simply pretended it had never been installed at all - I've just got the standard VGA driver running. There are no traces of the Nvidia driver or control panel anywhere.
I just tried a second time with the same result.

I'm about to try downloading one of the more recent beta drivers from Guru3D, hoping that will work. If not I guess there's no other way than going back to the several months old Asus driver.

Anyone got a clue what's happening here?

Edit: I just downloaded a driver - 165.43 I think it was - from Microsoft's update site. It was specifically labelled 8600M GT, and yet the installer behaves like when you try to install a regular driver without the modded inf.
Well, I'm gonna try my luck with a 169.04 driver from Guru3D. If that doesn't "stick" it looks like I might be stuck with the outdated Asus driver, and I seem to have deleted the 169.09 that worked (well, recent BSODs aside :)).

Edit, edit: Well, what do you know - Vista also pretends I didn't just install 169.04. Are you guys sure the people over at LaptopVideo2Go didn't also do something to the drivers rather than just supplying the modified inf files?

I imagine they didn't pay their hosting bill - which is also indicated in the post on the Nvidia forum where they are asking for donations.
I only stopped by the site once so I never really did get a look at how active their forums were or how many downloads they may have supplied, but even though bandwidth is dirt cheap these days, use enough of it and you nevertheless still end up with a fairly substantial hosting bill every month.

Well, seemingly devoid of other options (aside from possibly loading an older sytem restore point, which I didn't feel like doing) I downloaded the official Asus drivers.

The are a compartively ancient version 101.38 (from this Summer), but no more blue screens of death in the two games I've just been playing for the last hour or so (so far :p, but of course 169.09 was working fine for me until yesterday), and performance doesn't seem any worse with these old drivers - if anything it actually looked like things were running a bit smoother, not higher framerates perhaps, but no "stuttering".

    Hello All,

Laptopvideo2go going down is awful. I waited to update my drivers to enusre stability. Now I can't find 169.04 drivers. I know they exist on various sites but it is an executable file. To my understanding, the file you download from LTV2Go is a zip file which you extract then drop the modded file in the folder, correct? How can I mod an .exe file?

I have the 169.04.exe driver should I just install that one without the inf file?

    Thanks all,

    Best

The exe files actually extract into a folder you specify before automatically running the setup program.
Once you cancel out of that (as it won't install) you can then move the modded inf over to that folder and manually run setup.exe.

As I just found out with two different sets of drivers, that may not work though. While the driver appears to install properly, there's no trace of it after the reboot and Vista has reverted to a standard VGA driver.
I really don't have a clue about this stuff, but it definately looks to me like LaptopVideo2Go did more to the drivers that simply supply a modded inf file.

It might work on your laptop of course.

I was just looking at the moded inf file. CatalogFile value seems to differ from the original nv4_disp.inf file.
It's a wild guess but could that be a culprit for why the driver won't install for some of you guys?
I still haven't got my laptop yet so I can't try it out.
Try changing "CatalogFile = NV_DISP.CAT" to "CatalogFile = NV4_DISP.CAT" in the moded inf file and see if it helps.

This is a good alternative method to use, no inf needed.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=192125

Not sure if it could mess your laptop up though, try changing it to a desktop version of your card just to be on the safe side. thanks to XSilvenX

The .exe file should be a 2 step process.

    1. extract all the files to a folder
    2. install the driver

so, run the exe, let it extract the files, cancel out of the installation, replace the INF, run setup.exe from the folder where the files extracted to.

For those of you having trouble installing the driver, try installing it the following way. It's how laptopvideo2go recommends installing the driver.

    For Vista..

    • open up task manager
    • expand the "Display Adapters" field
    • double click on what it says there. either your video card or "standard VGA controller"
    • click on the "driver" tab on top
    • click "update driver"
    • select "Browse my computer for driver software"
    • select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
    • Click on "Have Disk"
    • Open up the folder that you extraced the driver to and where you replaced the INF. You should see "nv_disp". select it.
    • Click next and continue through installation

    Hope this helps.

    can i just ask.....

im new to nvidea graphics as ive had ati on my alst few machines,im currently running 169.04 modded inf driver

but im just not 100% clear on forceware, and how that updates or if the forceware updates give me different options and settings ? do i update my forceware too or what ?

ie, with ati, you installed the ati driver latest one, but you could also update the catalyst control panel aswell

or if i just download the 169.04 , then the modded inf and instal the have disk way, is that updating the forceware and nvidea control panel and everything ????

would appriciate if anyone can clear this up for me and exact how to do it for the 8600m GT , as any forcewares ive downloaded and tried to install its said not compatible

    thanks all !!

Go to http://www.tweakforce.com they have the Extreme-g 169.04. 169.12 is out. I installed 169.09 on my X205-SLi1 and it fixed Bioshock and Crysis , Unreal tournament 3 runs perfect at maxed settings.

Looks like laptopvideo2go might be down for a long time, make sure you're getting the driver that fits your OS (vista 32 bit or 64bit for instance) and read the help guides on the site.

Whenever I use it it acts as if nothing happens. To make matters worse I went to partition a drive for XP and everytime I go to make a simple volume it says theres not enough space even though I just allocated 100 gigs to xp. I just want these video drivers to work right now im in standard VGA mode.

If all else fails, get hold of the drivers from your laptop manufacturer (was it Dell?).
As mentioned, after several failed attempts at installing downloaded drivers from Guru3D and Nvidia.com together with the modded inf files someone posted in large zip file, I went and downloaded the ones available from Asus.

They worked (as well they should :), and the first indication was that the installation took a bit longer than those Vista chose to ignore in favor of standard VGA mode).
It's a fairly old Forceware version, 101.38, but performance in games seems good and I've also seemingly gotten rid of a couple of recent problems - blue screens of death on game launches, and Vista sleep mode not always working (the last one still seems a bit sketchy though, now the problem seems to have shifted to an external harddrive occasionally preventing the damn thing to enter sleep mode properly. I like Vista, but it definately still feels a it rough around the edges :)).

Ignore the post I just wrote then :).

Good to hear that it's working - though I really don't feel tempted to mess around with my system any more for now.
Forceware 101.38 from Asus will have to do for a while :).

    Sorry I'm so stupid

But is the "unlabeled" one [this being 16904, as opposed to labeled ones like 16904_vista64] the one for XP 32-bit?

    Thanks!

Yea, remember get the international version. In fact, I'm going to make a post as it seems many people are having this problem.

I had problems installing too, even with the modded inf. I uninstalled the previous driver and then installed the new version. It seemed to work. The version says that it is the updated version.

    Good luck
