I have an ASUS G1S-A1 and I tried to play Call of Duty 4 on it with the 169.01 drivers and only got like 5 FPS with everything on low and 640x480 resolution and was puzzled...... I installed the newer 169.04 drivers from laptopvideo2go.com and the game runs at everything on high at 1024x768 (havnt tried higher) brilliantly with no choppiness, only the occasional half second stall every 3 minutes. It was like night and day between the .01 and .04 drivers for me....... what the heck is up with that?

BTW, Crysis will run on this laptop (stock) on medium/high 30 FPS~ :D

169.01 and 169.04 are the same except for a minor fix to powermiser I think.

Plus I use the 169.01 and have no problems so I think you just had a bad driver install.

The 169.01 and the 169.04 are great indeed, I have them installed on my desktop and there have been no problems.

How's is the heat for laptops with the 16x.xx drivers? And the battery drainage?
Since these 16x.xx series are designed for desktops right?

    Thanks

I'm having playback problems with these drivers. :( Is it unheard of? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the codec many times now, getting the latest and all. It started happening after I updated to these drivers. :(

the series is, but the drivers u get from l2g are modified(that's why u have to use the moded inf all the time) to include the support for mobile users, including powermize r(that actually works on the newer drivers).

i have the g1s and the temp of my laptop is usually at 74 when i'm just using a word doc or surfing the web. after installing the 169.04 its been idling at 61-64. I even oc it from 475/702 to 575/800 and the temps in game are the same as the previous driver i had installed.

The new drivers are awesome, just for fun I maxed everything out on COD4 at the highest resolution my monitor can support which is 1280 x 800. It still manages to push out 15-25 FPS (mainly between 17-21), I was very impressed, this is with 4X AA, and FSAA x16, the game looks so much better, playable but not enjoyable, still good for looking at the amazing graphics of the game.

Waaait, the newer drivers work with Powermiser.. (I've not installed it, but its a good sign.) Do things self monitor, or with the modded drivers are you running hot with full fans all the time, even when not gaming? I'd like to update drivers as I'm still on the defaults included, but I dont' want to be running hot all the time...

Is it just me or do ATi's drivers not have such a huge difference in performance/options etc. between them? Not stirring, just asking :)

I have been running the 169.04 drivers since they appeared and they increased my fps from 20-25 to 30-35 in Crysis...on medium :)
