is nvidia releasing drivers too quickly?
169.17 is out already...
its so crazy fast that we don't even have time to experiment with 169.13 before 169.17 comes out.
I think that if nvidia is going to be doing constant updates, they should be big cumulative MONTHLY updates, or Bi-Monthly, maybe.
I think 169.13 had a life of about 3 days...

These are probably leaks. I'm pretty sure 169.13 was leaked and not officially hosted by nvidia. Maybe the same case here.
-
They are beta drivers too.
The last official one is still 163.44 I believe -
There is no option for 5.) Nvidia are a bunch of poopy heads!
-
See, this is what I was talking about, just wait a while and you will have some thing like 169.99 that would be worth your time.

Before people were crying to the heavens for new drivers to improve performance (and allow overclocking). I guess too much of a good thing...
Like I've said before poor nvidia. -
Yeah, I'd definately rather atleast have the option to update drivers and choose not to, than have to wait 3 months for each update, all the while having a game that won't play as well as it could with a better driver....
As said, if ya don't wanna keep up with them, don't bother, just catch the bigger releases... but, atleast we have the option to! -
Whenever new games come out, new drivers follow. If you look at the sheer amount of games that just came out, we're pretty much on track with drivers.
-
Yeah, sure... MAYBE Nvidia could organize the driver updates to be a little more predictable. But if I had to choose between more driver updates or more predictable driver release schedules, I'd go for more driver updates hands down.
Never, EVER discourage a company from hyper-supporting its drivers. Even if the release schedule is a little hectic. -
anyone do anythng with the .17 yet in any changes?
-
You guys realize that the vast majority of drivers you get on LV2G aren't official nVidia releases, right? Because of the nature of nVidia's driver architecture there will always be leaked beta versions, tweaked OEM releases, and so on. I really don't see what's to complain about though. I mean, it's not as if when a new driver is released your current one suddenly stops working or something.
-
As already said, most of these drivers are beta versions. You don't have to (and probably shouldn't) install them in the first place.
Wait for the major releases if you don't want to update every other day.
NVidia is still playing catch up with Vista and DX10 (and because of that, their XP drivers have somewhat suffered as well), so it's only good that they're throwing out beta drivers at this rate. Shows they're finally getting back on track. -
64-bit driver isn't working for me with modded .inf.
Says I'm running a 32-bit uninstaller in a 64-bit client. What's the deal? -
has anyone used them and noticed preformace differences
-
Oh wow great now after trying to install these drivers I can't even revert back to .13.
****ing awesome!
:Edit: Does ANYONE have any information on how to completely remove every file or fragment of information having to do with video drivers off this machine? Something is now prohibiting me from installing ANY video card driver for my laptop. I'm really pissed off about this ****. CCleaner isn't doing a damn thing.
:editx2: About 5 reinstalls later, 10 CCleaner cleanups, 5 restarts, 7 re-downloads, I finally got .13 working again, although I'm not sure how this time worked and not the others.
.19 is missing nvuninst.exe, therefore it simply doesn't work. Avoid it until LP2G fixes this. -
Sooo have anyone tested these drivers while discussing nvidia?
-
This is crazy, already a new driver. But I don't mind, I like new drivers
Anyone tested them yet ? LV2GO got the missing files? -
i usually wait until an official release is out, or enough people have sampled the driver to give it a good thumbs up. i'm currently using 169.01's and see no reason switch yet.
-
considering how different notebooks are more compatible with different versions of drivers i'd think this is win/win situation
-
The only thing that's worrying me, is that the driver is missing an uninstall ?
-
what about the performance of this driver? (better/worse... ?)
-
Don't know, haven't really seen any benchs here on NBR, only on Guru3d and nvnews. I don't have time today to do any benchies, so if someone aldready downloaded the driver, could you please test it and post here?
-
Now i'm on the 169.13 driver and this driver did a wonderfull job on my vista aero but DECREASED my performance...
The first driver still works best for me (especially the 169.04, I'm gone install this driver again) -
I've just installed it, and I don't see any difference in FEAR Combat (multiplayer). The only difference I notice is driver ver. and date
WEI is still the same. It has only changed 2 times, after 163.44 and 169.01
But you CAN uninstall it, from disk/hardware management! -
-
-
(I also want that) so that's why look around and if most people get performance increase (without issues) i also install that driver
But now i stay with my 169.04 driver -
I ****ing hate this driver me nvidia control panel doesnt work anymore and i want to uninstall it how do i do this?
-
These have a problem in common with all of the 169.09 and above drivers on my T61 where PowerMizer can't be turned off, so getting acceptable 3D performance just isn't possible on battery.

I don't like to update my drivers every week! It's really annoying.
-
I just put the stock dell driver in again as i didnt notice any better fps with lp2go driver.

nVidia can't win, it seems. People complained that nVidia was pumping out drivers too slowly over the summer, while ATI was doing monthly releases. Now that nVidia is churning out fixes as soon as it can code them, people once again complain.
Here's a solution guys: Instead of downloading every single driver, how about reading the release notes or changelog for a change? If that's too much work, then sit back on the stock drivers. 169 series drivers are performance drivers- they're not here to make your life easier. They're here to get you the extra 3 FPS in Crysis or 3dMark. Eventually these fixes will trickle down to the official releases. In the meantime, upgrade when you want to, or just stay with the official 163 series drivers.

For those of you who are having problems, try Driver Cleaner Pro. I was having weird issues with COD4 and graphical artifacts with 169.04, but a complete driver cleaner run and reinstall fixed the problems. Make sure to follow the directions explicitly, or your life could get difficult really fast. -
I say its great. The more, the better. More of a chance for a new driver to come out that greatly increases performance, even if a few screw things up.
-
If these were OFFICIAL releases, I'd say that they're releasing them FAR too fast.
However, since these are BETA drivers, they're generally for people who WANT the latest and the greatest, so it's really up to the individual.
For those who doesn't like the speed nVidia put out these beta drivers, just wait for official ones! -
where to dl that driver can someone give me link
169.17 is already out, Nvidia driver release rate opinions
