So I downloaded 169.28 32-bit, then got an inf file from another site, put it into the NVidia folder and it installed, only problem was my 3marks06 score was only 3300. Specs in my sig, but I know people get around 3800 with my specs. I don't have the full version of 3marks06, maybe that's the problem?

People that get around 3800 either overclock or bench at wrong resolution. The correct resolution is 1280x1024

Love these drivers, finally I can upgrade from 158.22 and have stable framerates.

with previous 169.XX series my games used to speed up, slow down, speed up, major stuttering and all that, where as with 158.22 at the expense of a bit less performance everything was smooth. I think this has something to do with powermizer not working properly (lv2go said that as well).

with these drivers powermizer must work properly or something (as said by lv2go) and either due to that or something else my games run perfectly smooth.

It just resets the clocks back to 400/600 (My regular clocks) when I hit apply. It does his in RivaTuner aswell.

actually I tried playing HL2 episode 2 today after I beat it a few weeks ago, but now I get terrible performance with it after I updated with 169.25. It worked awesome at maxed out options and res with 169.12 and now for some extremely odd reason It plays absolutely TERRIBLE with this new driver. I lossed atleast 20 to 30 fps with this one

Other games like UT3 and COD4 run great with it. I can run UT3 at max options detail to world and texture to 5 which is max with 1400x900 res and aniostrophic filtering x16, no AA.

UT3 is a much more demanding game so why the sudden huge performance drop with HL2 episode 1?? This has me puzzled.

Okay for those of you who cldnt overclock.....try this.....

Open Riavtuner 2.06 ...select Power user Tab.....
    ....expand "RivaTuner\NVIDIA\Overclcoking"....
Ull see an caption named EnablePerfLevelForcing.......put a tick on it
Now move to DisableMemClkResetProtection.........and put another click on it....Apply it and move to OC section..

Try Overclocking again.....Hope this will solve the prb

    Good Luck

So i know people ask alot about whats the best driver for yada yada.

But in general, what driver would you guys consider the best at this date for Vista?!? 169.12 ? 169.21 ? .25? .28 ?! im getting confused with all these releases lately, and cant seem to figure whats really best all around. I think ive got the best score with 169.21 in 3dmark, but we all know 3dmark doesnt really count when it comes to real gaming.

I've had great performance out of the 169.25 drivers. But, whats very odd is that it seems to only get great performance out of recent games (2007 games). I've been getting Bioshock at a good 30-40 fps at all high settings in 1280x800 res. UT3 runs max at 1365x769 at a good 35-50 fps.

But it runs HL2 episode 1 terribly, I had a huge performance drop with this game on these drivers. Very odd indeed. Maybe its a bug, who knows but it runs recent games great.

The performance I have had on UT3 and Bioshock has me very happy with the 8600gs. Not at all a bad card by any means.

Curious, but why's that temp ridiculous? I've been trying to find safe operationg temps for these gpu's, and from everything I've read, under 100 seems fine.... reason i ask is, I've got a Toshiba x205 SLi1(Has 2 8600mGT's), and with everything stock, the gpu's idle around 60-65, and when running Crysis or looping 3Dmark06 hit the mid 80's regularly. Even seen a bit into the 90's with some overclocking, but Toshiba set this thing up to run in the mid 80'sC, so how can it be that hard on the gpu's? They have to warranty and stand behind the product, and I can't help but think if that was murdering the chips, they'd do something differently.... anyway, sorry off topic, but was curious.... can't find a good answer to this, and hear from some Asus guys that their single 8600's are running into the upper 80's to 90's as well, even without overclocking, and i don't hear about their's frying either.

well im going by what alienware told me when i bought a laptop from them recently. i was experiencing slowdown on all my games and went went thru a diagnostic check and stress test and he said if it goes to 80-85C then he needs to replace my laptop, and it did so i got a new one. as for this laptop, its a satellite x205 8700mGT and i get idle of 45C and i have yet to see it cross 70 or 65. (haven't OC'd yet tho)

I am in the same boat as be77solo... I have a Toshiba P100-ST9742 (gf go 7900gtx 512mb, WinXP) that just got a brand new graphics card (previous gfx card had bad memory chip). According to ATI Tool, my idle temp is about 67deg and when I game it goes up to high 70's/low 80's and even into the 90's with rFactor. So it is of interest to me also to get the real skinny on "how high is too high" for graphics chips in our laptops.

Here it is! At the time I posted the links, LV2GO didn't have the modded infs. Guru3D always post the drivers before LV2GO.

Yeah, my single 8700 ran pretty cool as well, but the SLI setup with 2 8600's in there is noticeably hotter.... so far i haven't had a single issue at all with it, but for a system that runs in the mid 80's out of the box, I can't see that as being a problem in Toshiba's eyes.... now if yours did with the single gpu i could see that being a sign something isn't cooling properly, but considering mine idles hotter than yours run while being pushed, there's got to be a higher ceiling than 80 degrees... i can't think that Toshiba and Nvidia would both advertise and push a machine that's literally frying itself from the inside out, so that leads me to believe that it's higher than that, but how high I can't find anywhere? Like I said, never had a single crash or glitch or anything of the sort that I'd relate to anything GPU or temperature related.

tried running gta:san andreas on these drivers, and got a little upset. the game runs somewhat sluggish...i maxed it out at 1280*800 everything turned on, incl. 3x aa...any suggestions whatsoever?

EDIT: solved the problem by installing 169.04's. gameplay improved considerably. not touching 169.28 for a while
