    Hi,
I recently installed 185.85 dox drivers on my Dell Vostro 1500 for 8600M GT DDR2 and I can't oc the 8600m gt anymore... riva tuner does say it can recognize the card, other software I dowloaded also can't see the card.
Before I used dox 174.49 and it was ok, I installed the new one becouse I read it's good and allow you to oc card even more and more efficient - but I can't do this at all...
    anyone can help me?

    cheers

    Have you tried nvidia nTune?

That always works for me, i only ever use that to overclock, when i used to overclock, i'v tried it with many different dox drivers, including 185.85, works fine, i don't overclock it no more though.

i wouldn't do it to 8600M GT either, they are prone to failure as it is.

The last Dox driver I used on my Vostro 1500/Geforce 8600M GT was 185.68 and it overclocked just fine. Put everything back to stock when I gave the notebook to someone else to use. I was using XP 64.

185.85 has been known to have issues with rivatuner, nTune itself can cause BSODs when installed so its recommended to install it via Nvidia System Tools.

May I first recommend you undervolt that gpu of yours, and THEN mess around with the overclocks?
I keep my 9600m GT at 0.89V (as opposed to the stock 1.2V - I think) and I've overclocked it to 9700m GT levels (well, essentially, now I DO have a 9700m GT - the 128bit bus one).

My temps don't go over 61 degrees when under heavy load.

I agree that the 8600m GT will likely be hotter either way, but you have nothing to lose by undervolting. In fact, you will reduce your temperatures by a good margin, and increase the life expectancy of the card.

gah, ive been looking for guides on how to undervolt gpu, i have undervolted cpu with no problems but everyone says undervolting gpu is a bad idea, and if anything it should be overvolted to handle increased clock speeds. can you pm with a link to a guide or something? greatly appreciated
