Hey!
I installed the latest drivers from nVidia last night (v. 185.85), and now I don't see the nVidia Control Panel.![]()
Like always, I booted in the Safe Mode, uninstalled the previous driver, used Driver Sweeper to remove the nVidia left-over junk, and then used CCleaner to clean my computer. I then booted in the normal mode, uninstalled nVidia PhysX, and installed the new drivers, but didn't see the nCP. I did all this again, but it still isn't there.
Also, the two auto-start up entries that come up when these drivers are installed were not there, both times.
Am I missing something?![]()

did you install just the drivers or the drivers & control panel?
-
I installed 185.85 too. But I got nVidia Control Panel and every thing is just like before... :/. Have you tried to re-install ?
-
im just about to update from the beta 185.81 which i think are exactly the same but now official.
the only thing i can think of is cc cleaner might have cleaned it too well and deleted the driver.
try re installing and use driver cleaner in safe mode but dont cc clean it and see if that helps.
its only a guess but i hope it works. -
I mean, I've installed 100s of them, and I've never had to install nCP from somewhere else.
-
Driver, from where? The old one you mean? Then it shouldn't have mattered anyways!
-
Did you download the Nvidia version or the stripped-down LaptopVideo2Go version?
-
The nVidia version, straight from their website.
-
I didnt get their control panel either, I just installed this one straight from their website and got no panel, only driver...
-
-
download -> install
I was on stock drivers of the 8662 sager though... -
Have to tried to re-download them and install?
-
Im not sure why you aren't seeing the control panel. For now, I would just rollback the drivers to the previous one's until someone has a solution for this.
Edit: I have seen many reports of bugs with this new driver release. Many users have interlacing problems, no overclocking, or just no control panel, period. The AOC DX10 test doesn't work either. So yeah, a rollback might be in order.
Lol, I googled your problem Silas, and it came up as the 4th entry in google. Thats pretty cool. -
Make sure to uninstall old drivers first, best to do it from safe mode so that some files aren't locked, reboot back into regular windows, and install drivers. If that doesn't do the trick, then perhaps there's something funky with your hardware and bios related to your video card.
I know with my Lenovo, it has software switchable graphics between integrated (4500MHD) and discrete (ATI HD 3450), and can cause issues with driver and control panel installs. -
-
Also, what the-
-
-
After some more research, it looks like it's a common problem with this version, so I'll wait it out, since I expect nVidia to roll out a new version soon to fix it.
-
stick with the previous 182 series.
-
Yeah, I deleted them.
-
I havent had the Nvidia control panel yet on any driver, but this is the only driver that I can install other than stock drivers...
I can also install Dox's drivers but they dont have the control panel either -
-
the beta 185.81 were better on teperatures for me. HD was 51c max but now its 55c

P9600 2.66
4GB RAM
GTX260
I installed stock drivers from the driver disk and it had no option for NVidia control panel at all. I downloaded this new driver straight from NVidia's website and tried just installing over current driver and also tried safe mode uninstall driver sweeper install.
But it just doesnt have the option for the control panel in the install at all.
Only option available is the driver... so odd... -
I too have the same problem. And you can try out opening the ncp from windows CP. I'm quite sure you will get the runtime error like i did.
For the meantime i'm using nhancer and RT for brightness and Evga for OC, so i aint gonna roll back cos i observed some major fps increases with this driver. -
-
ive got NCP and its working fine.
-
I dled it today. All I had to do was dl the driver and later on I noticed the control panel was in appearance and personlization.
Im running w7 though, but you can check there to see if it might be there...if you havent done so already. -
I think I'll redownload it. :s
-
So, have you solved your problem?
-
This could just be an isolated case of idiocy but I want you all to know the same thing happened to me; however, I soon realized that I downloaded the wrong OS version. I'm running Vista64 bit and somehow I got XP64. After downloading the correct version I had my control panel back.
-
-
I'm now downloading their notebook version to see if it solves the problem.
Is it badly written lump of code, this notebook version, or do they put any effort in it? -
Well, the notebook version has everything, so I'll be using it. I hope it's not a badly ported thing.
-
I am redownloading the drivers cause this is really strange, I have downloaded it 3 times all with the same result... I am sure I have the notebook drivers and the the right OS version... ahh well, I will test it
-
Ok, redownloaded and this is all thats available to me...
Attached Files:

-
That was the only thing available to me too, but it has the nCP.
I'm using their notebook drivers for the first time, so I don't know what else is supposed to be there, but everything's back. -
Wait so you were using "not notebook" version for your notebook and wondered why it wasn't working correctly???
-
It was for 2 years, until this version. They didn't even have a notebook version for their drivers till recently!
-
-
-
Actually, they're just the first to be listed as WHQL - both 179.28 and 179.48 carried WHQL certificate files despite being listed as beta.
-
-
-
Ah ok Silas, they are the first official, per se. Sorry, I thought the hacked drivers counted lol.
I like those drivers, they work great.
-
I'd never install an OS if it wasn't straight from MS. L2G might as well be the nVidia guys themselves working out of their basement, but I still won't trust them unless they had a seal of approval from, errr, nVidia.

185.85 has not nVidia Control Panel?
