Hi,
I have a Dell Studio 1735 with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 graphics card with a VGA output and HDMI output. Has anyone actually successfully used their HDMI output to run a 1920x1200 resolution? I know VGA supports higher but the specification page on ATI's website say HDMI only supports 1920x1080 (want to use the DIGITAL HDMI output, not analog VGA!). I would like to use my Dell Studio 1735 with either the Dell U2410 (with 1920x1200 res) or Dell U2711 (with a 2560x1440 res). If anyone has successfully done this with a similar setup, please let me know.
Thanks!!!

What page did you see that HDMI only outputs 1080p max? Is it in regards to the HDMI interface itself or your GPU?
Why not just use DVI? -

Might be built around an older version of the specification, (not to mention its generally aimed at LCD TVs, which currently only go up to 1920x1080). VGA is often only rated til 1920x1200 as well due to crosstalk and cabling issues (you usually need a pretty solid VGA lead to actually do 1920x1200 without just breaking up/no image), ideally you'd want dual DVI for higher.
If your screen supports 1920x1200 via HDMI you'll might be ok, 2560x1440 over HDMI generally requires a more recent revision of the specification due to throughput/bandwidth needs. -
Thanks for the quick reply.

In regards to the GPU.
There is no DVI output on my laptop. It is funny cause older Dell models usually have DVI which supports 1920x1200 for sure, but the "sleek, new" models seem to maybe only have 1920x1080 from HDMI. I am wondering if maybe an HDMI to DVI converter might do it. -
I highly doubt it would support 2650x1440 although apparently with dual-link DVI it would. I wonder why Dell cripples these graphics card by not providing the proper outputs... -

Older cards at the end of the day, support for newer standards has to be supported by the card as well as the monitor, and the HDMI standard is still undergoing revision as it becomes more and more popular.
That level of resolution is actually supported by the later HDMI revisions, and also later versions of Displayport. -
I use my laptop with my 1080p 42" tv at 1920*1080 without a problem.

He was talking about higher res than 1080p, you kinda missed the point.
