I'm just curious to see those using this resolution and how old you are. I thought gaming might be the best spot for this.

    I'm 29.

1440 x 900 seems to be the best for gaming. 1920 x 1200 is best for watching HDTV and Blu-Ray. I have a 1680 x 1050 at 42 years old and wouldn't want it any higher execpt for HDTV.

What does it have to do with your age?

Well I did have a 17" 1920x1200 Sager 5791 when I was 17. Sold it about a month after I turned 18, but absolutely loved the screen. Now I have an Acer Aspire One with an 8.9" 1024x600 screen that's the exact same pixel pitch of a 17" WUXGA+ screen, and still love it. And I'm still 18 ;)

I think it has to do more with the person's eyesight. I had my eyes checked out last year, and was told I have perfect vision, but I know some people with bad eyesight that always tell me they can't read the text on my screen, and I'll have to crank down the resolution for them. They usually like 1280x800 on a 17" LCD for reading text, and still squint at it, whereas I can read the WUXGA+ 17" screen clearly from across the room.

I'm 41. 20/13 vision at last exam, and I still don't think a 17" display should be any higher res than WSXGA+. Sure, I can read it, but the additional real estate just isn't worth the additional eye strain, even for people with perfect vision.

You didn't mention the font size. I saw a sign on the side of the road the other day that I could read from half a mile away....it was a billboard. ;)

    1920x1200 on a 17" laptop (XPS m1710)

    And I'm 39 with 20/20 uncorrected vision...

And it works just fine for games...if I'm trying to read a Word file, and I'm too lazy to zoom, I just close my right eye and poke my left eye real hard with my thumb, and I can read it fine...

My last laptop was 1600x1200 on a 15" screen...I'll never go back to lower resolutions...I love the screen real estate...and I do have to compromise on gaming (eg, running Crysis at 1280x800 and allowing the 7950 to scale to native res on full screen)...maybe not quite as sharp, but I don't tend to notice on a 17" screen...

Since I'm old and decrepit, I'm waiting to see what gives first...my vision, my reflexes, or my thumbs (my hearing is already gone)...

I HAD 1920x1200 on my 15.4 notebook but when i upgrade I got stuck downgrading to 1680x1050(still same size). Have dual monitors with 1600x1200 for each of my 20" monitors for my desktop. The difference is much more notice able on the bigger screen but i would still prefer to have it on my laptop.

what exactly is the statistic supposed to represent? are you trying to find the corelation between age and resolution because of vision problems when people get older? if it counts for anything my vision is 20/15 and i guess i sit 2-3 feet from my monitor.

I bought it for video editing (trying to cram as much Avid stuff in one screen can be a challenge, figured I might as well give it as much res) but ended up liking it in general too

    Have it on P-7805u.
    16 years old.
I've got the DPI and font size all set to how it came from the factory and I can read everything fine without strain.
I've got contacts which give me a 20/20 vision, but without them I'd probably be straining to even read a 800x400 screen haha.

Age and resolution has no correlation.
Even people with corrected eyes usually have very good vision at the close range these tiny screen are being used at...
With contacts in, I have better than 20/20...

Preference and budget play a big part.

On a 17" laptop with proper hardware, I could see me wanting a 1920x1200 display.

Having seen many 15" laptops, I tend to think of 1920x1200 on a 15" as overkill. That means never enough benefit to make it worthy of the extra cost... this doesn't mean the extra resolution isn't better, it just isn't worth the cost IMHO.

Your survey is not valid unless you ask the size of the monitor. a 1024x768 with 10" notebook would cause more eyestrain than 1920x1200 with a 20" monitor.

I think we've so far learned that there's absolutely no relation between age and pixel size. From young to old, if their vision is great, they'll usually tend to like the extra real estate and clarity from a higher resolution. Some people have a preference for a lower resolution, but it isn't related to age from what I can tell.
