    Is there a difference?
I think I found the laptop I wanted by reading the threads but in the configuration I'm not sure which one to go with.
    Is there alot of difference?

No, there is very, very minimal difference between the two, which is probably not worth more than $20, in my opinion. The bottleneck will not be the amount of graphics RAM--it will be the power of the GPU cores and the memory bandwidth.

As an analogy, think about a restaurant where you can eat all that you can in 2 hours. It doesn't matter how much food they bring you if you can only eat at a certain rate--you'll still only be able to eat the same amount in the end.

More memory is a HUGE deal, but only when playing with HUGE resolutions and graphics settings.

So for a laptop it wont make a difference really.

    even for desktops a 4870 512mb vs a 4870 1gb at 1920x1200 barely makes a difference.

memory size for is just a vendor game. like a 2gb low end card selling the same price as a 1gb midend card.
