ive bought a laptop with 1GB RAM and 128MB dedicated x700. will upgrading to 2GB RAM help in running games at higher resolutions and higher settings??
i'm thinkin of upgrading the RAM just wanna know if it is actually worth
-
There will be an increase in performance, although this would also depend on the type of game being played.
-
what about doom 3..............can i play it at higher resolutions and more cranked up settings??
-
When it all comes down to it, its all about the graphics card - the upgrade in RAM will help but the video performance will only increase by a little bit.
-
can i get like information in more detail!!!!!!!!!1
-
Yes, somehow upgrade RAM will help if you play game at high resolution setting, but if you crank up all game details(anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, shadow rendering, etc) I think you need more powerful GPU than X700, for example Geforce 7800GT/7900GS/GT, 'very-rare' Radeon X1800/X1900.

and why cant i enable Motion blur in NFS Carbon????

Benchmarks of my M1437G:
With 1 GB running Oblivion: around 15-20 fps, a lot of stuttering.
With 1.5 GB: around 18-24 fps, a lot of the stuttering is gone. Game runs more smooth.
America's army: with 1 GB a lot of stuttering in close combat. With 1.5 GB a lot of stuttering was gone.
BF2: runs much much more smooth with 1.5 GB. I was able to play at a bit higher settings while having less stuttering.
UT2004: Higher FPS during close combat (around 5 FPS).
I hope this helps. A reminder: upgrading your RAM to 2 GB wont give you the ability to have double the fps or something. Games will run much smoother (especially newest games) and you will see a bit higher fps (2-3, max 5 fps).

now thats what i call being helpful
then tell me which is better: 512MB DDR with 256MB x700 or 2GB DDR with 128MB x700
and also:
Why cant i enable motion blur in NFS Carbon? -
I have the x700 128MB with 2.0GB of ram. It is really great when I play BF2. I can set most of the settings to Medium/High.
If you have the extra money it is well worth it. Plus I enjoy having multiple programs open at one time and the extra ram really kicks in in that situation.

Upgrading your RAM will definitely help your performance and make games smoother as posted. I had 1GB of RAM for a while; when I upgraded to 2GB, I noticed an immediate difference in gaming performance (it was a lot smoother in more demanding games, and overall framerates were better).

Don't forget that even 256mb card sometimes needs something in ram (hypermemory on max texture settings and high res for example), so it is always good to have plenty of it. I like my 2GB and 128MB x700.

so basically 2gb ram with 128mb x700 card is a good one right........i mean for the latest games???
-
vram is mainly used for textures in games. So if a game requires 256mb vram for textures it will be faster on a 256MB card.
I was playing Quake 4 with ultra textures (meaning my 128MB wasn't enough), and x700 was using hypermemory in my RAM - 600MB of it! The speed wasn't the issue though. So in that sense even 256MB VRAM wouldn't be enough and it is better to have more ordinary RAM.
But if you have two options: 1GB + 256MBx700 and 2GB ram + x700 128MB I would actually go for the first option since ram can be upgraded, and vram not. So in a year or so you may have 2GB + 256MB - which is probably the best, don't you agree?
I hope this helps,

yes thank you.........that really helped
1GB ram x700 vs 2GB ram x700
