Just a hype most likely, many video cards won't even use that much.

2 GB of DDR3 VRAM (2 9800's in sli) would be kickass. The more ram allows settings to be bumped for better/more textures, I believe. It is mainly hype to sell notebooks, but then again, more demanding games are always being developed, so in the future, 1 GB or 2GB (sli) of the latest card will be sold and used. My 2 cents...

The 9800 has a 256 bit bus width and with most games will only use up to half a gig effectively with the card. I doubt any game will make use of any more memory with this card... although more memory definatly wouldn't hurt :D

And also remember it is NOT!!! sorry for the shouting ;) 2GB of Video memory in SLI at all. They are still 1GB, same with my XPS M1730 they are only 512MB, doesn´t matter they run in SLI, the video memory does not increase if you run SLI. Only hype and misleading to the consumer to print out that they have 2GB of memory when they in fact don´t.

And as said it´s a waste of memory since the 9800m GTX is limited by it´s 256 bit bus and will not utilize more than 512 effectively.

It is really sad to see what lengths companies go to sell their products by emphasizing on an attribute not even present.

most of the sager 96 series and other sager laps are forcing 1 gig vid card in the notebooks and not the 512's. it increase the price by 300 bucks which will put a hold on people wanting to buy a good system for gaming or otherwise.

And an even much sadder to find that mid range cards that have 128 bus RARELY come with 256 mb of RAM.
I mean honestly, the companies aren't stupid ... they want to put the more expensive components inside to gain more money, and then those who are more experienced with laptops (like us) are very limited in what we can get for a lower price (as if we aren't already spending too much cash on brand names alone).
As such we are virtually FORCED to shell out more cash.
