i have a compaq c502us, and i just upgraded to 1gig of ram, and i have gta san andreas on my imac which runs fine, but i know it probly would run horrable on my laptop. I know that GTA3 has lower requirements for what it needs to run so would 1gig of ram , 1.8ghz , and a GMA 950 integrated graphics card be able to allow me to play Grand theft auto 3 liberty city?. thanks :)

Most probably will run, but might have to turn off some eye candies from a stable frame rate.

you guys know any other games that might work good with my laptop, from the stats i gave. countestrike seems to lag in some games online, but other than that it runs good.

    Neverwinter Nights
    Diablo
    Diablo II
    GTA: VC
    All the Homeworld Games
FarCry (though you do need to patch it)
Halo 2 (low eye candy though)

I ran GTA3 on a GMA900 and it was pretty choppy at 1024x768 res and low details. The GMA950 might run it okay.

Halo 2??? Surely not. That game is due in June 2007, it is not even out yet for the PC.
I struggle with running Halo Combat Evolved on my GMA950 (800x600 rez, everything on low), so I doubt Halo 2 will run anywhere near acceptable when it comes out.

Perhaps you meant Half Life 2?? HL2 runs quite well because Valve is one of the companies that actually bother to optimize their algorithms before releasing their games.

i remember trying half life 2 when i got my computer when it had 512 ram and it was practicaly unplayable at the lowest settings. i'm not sure if it would change now that i have 1g ram but w/e. yeh i didn't think halo 2 was out for pc, that got me kind of confused. hey budding what are some games that you think might run ok on my computer.

man gta 3 runs really well. on 600 x 800 x 32 theres pretty much no lag at all, so do you guys think gta vice city would run ok or does it require alot more.

I think it might be a wash. The original GTA 3 actually had a very inefficient game engine in that it drew a lot of stuff that you actually can't see on screen because other objects cover it which wastes processing power. Vice City uses the same engine as GTA 3, but is now optimized to avoid wasted processing time. On the other hand, Vice City also adds more advanced lighting effects although they are really only DX7 level as in hardware T&L instead of shader effects. (GTA 3 itself is mainly DX6 hardware level).

I've played both GTA 3 and Vice City on a GeForce2 MX and Vice City ran much faster than GTA 3. At the same time, I've seen friends play San Andreas on a GMA 900 with a Pentium M so I don't think you should have much problems running Vice City.

Far Cry - no. Even with patches it's really slow.

    Halo 2? Not a hope.

alright cool, thats crazy to run san andreas on gma 900, i dont even know how thats possable. lots of people with really high end pc's even have it lag. it lags a little bit on my imac to, so i don't even want to see it on my laptop.

also wondering, does counter strike 1.6 have a less sufficient game engine that counter strike source? because im not sure why counter strike is slow sometimes, on 800 x 600, while gta 3 runs really good, and halo runs pretty well at 800 x 600 w/ high details. i'de like to install source and play on like 800 x 600 , but im not sure if you guys think it would work ok. also it would be awsome if you guys could suggest some more good games, that would work on my comp.

also i heard someone say in another form to someone with a ati x1400 or somthing graphics card, say " Check to make sure ur performance settings are not under battery saving." how can i check if my computer has it under battery saving, and should i do anything about this, im not sure if it is under battery saving. sorry for all the questions. I'de just like to get css to run. thanks for hte help.

CSS will run but it'll be crap - I wouldn't really bother, to be honest. You'll have to run on everything low, in directx7 mode, and even then people still get chokage and stuttering.

San Andreas as far as I'm aware does not work on the GMA at all contary to what somebody posted.

Plenty of decent games will work fine on your card - Empires at War, Soldier of Fortune, Quake III, Call of Duty, C&C Generals and C&C 3, Dawn of War, and loads more, you just need to research before you buy.

The GMA series is a particularly tough one to shop for, as unlike most other cards the tech specs of the GMA900/950 are not to be relied on to run a game, i.e. in many cases you might quadruple the minimum spec requirements of a given game on paper, but in reality the game might run slow, or not run at all, and in contrast you might barely meet the minimum requirements of another game and it'll run fine!

anyone got anymore suggestions for games that would work well on the gma 950 / 945g?, so far Vice city , and gta 3 are both workin real good. halo didn't work very well actually very laggy even on low settings, but other than the ones havok suggested what are some good ones that might be more recent that would run good.

It will have difficulty with GTA3 no doubt. I'm playing San Andreas right now and find that at native resolution I needed to bring the graphics down to high and turn off anti-aliasing etc. It ran fine most times, but occasionally it would slow down to 9-10 FPS. Funny, it doesn't seem to run higher than 25 fps for me regardless.

actualy gta 3 runs perfect on 800 x 600 x 32, with no decreased options, as well as vice city runs great as well on 800 x 600 x 32. San Andreas must require alot more, because i have it on my imac and it lags a bit on it on max resolution but not to much. i think i prefer vice city and gta 3 though, san andreas just got to g for me and from what i can see the graphics arn't really noticably alot better on gta san andreas than vice city.

Not sure why it lags sometimes on my cpu, half-life 2 looked much nicer graphically yet ran with much higher frame-rates.
