a 8800gt sli will beat dual notebook 8800m gtx

you can build a better gaming desktop that will smack the zps 1730 around with 2k

EDIT: note: a notebook 8800gtx is around the perfomance of desktop G80 8800gts

Most probably a GTS, not sure though.
    A GT/GTS SLI will beat a m8800GTX sli though.

If you buy a laptop for $500 and use the remaining $1500 on a desktop, you'll have a much more powerful gaming machine than if you spent $2000 on a laptop.

See this for ideas on what $1500 can get you in the desktop world.

No. Probably similar to the 8800GS, maybe GT.

Shoot, for $1100 I landed a major kick-butt desktop and get a $200 gift card as well. If you don't game on the road, a gaming rig and portable laptop are a perfect combo.

Since you already have the 1730, I would upgrade it and buy your wife a cheap and lighter notebook. The fact that you can travel and keep your computer is a nice thing, If you go to the beach and it keeps raining you will regret not having your good computer with you
