Sorry im writing so many posts, but i really need your help. i promise ill soon stop writing so much ;)

IS there much difference in terms of performance between a Core duo 2, 2,2 Ghz and 2,4Ghz? cos the price difference is 210€ in a laptop im looking for.

    thanks :D

No, there is only a tiny bit of difference in the real world performance in those processors, and it is not when gaming. You should be good with the 2GHz.

There is not much of a difference between them in gaming performance.

I hope this is not (seen as) hijacking a post, I have a very similar question: does the 1.8 to 2.0 GHz (both santa rosa) matter for gaming or 3d software such as Solidworks, 3Dsmax, Maya?

For Maya and Max, a stronger CPU always gives a better performance. But for gaming : I don't think so.

The real difference here is the cache: the T7100 (1.8) has 2MB, while the T7300 (2.0) has 4MB. With 3D work the added cache will help out.

Then I think it is worth the 83 euro price difference. Thank you!

The 4mb cache helps in games. They say a 5-10% improvement

The games are GPU limited. The 5-10% performance is for other tasks such as MP3 encoding, etc.

This laptop comes with 1GB of ROBSON memory that is between the CACHE and the RAM (in terms of priority)

    is that good?

BTW, is there going to be any new processors, graphics cards for 15,4"... before September

    thanks for your support!!

It comes between the HardDrive and the Ram.Flash will cripple the laptop if it comes between Cache and Ram.

It keeps the small and frequently files, so it makes reading/writing the data from/to the hard-drive faster.

    thanks

Intel is cutting prices for CPUs with a massive hacksaw on July 22, which is a good indicator that they want to accelerate the release of Penryn on that day. If that happens, expect some 45nm tech to trickle into the mobile market around September.

Right now I am waiting for one these bad boys. My wallet is empty so I can not buy it yet, and I am hanging around to see if Clevo will include support for 1333MHz FSB CPUs (Desktop hardware) when they are released on July 22. My current system will be 4 years old in November, and was only a little bit better than a budget machine when it was new; altough I am more of a programmer than gamer, so anything can hold me until a get a nice computer. Me = waiting, but I would suggest that you buy, as you will not need what is probably coming out. The next thing coming out are some video cards, but nothing big until Monteneva (right platform codename? I remember reading about it, but google returns 0 results) goes retail.

I dont think intel is going to release the Penryn this soon. They wont make as much money if they do that. It should come with the next generation mobile platform that is due on mid 2008. How would the consumer feel about if there is new stuff after they bought it few month ago? So i dont think intel is going in a hurry releasing the quad-core cpu just yet, since there is no real competition from AMD.

No, not the mobile Penryns, the desktop ones. Also, I don't think Intel would care if they made you have regrets about your purchase, hell, they would want it since you would have to buy their newest product.

The idea of Penryn coming out now isn't that new, check out this:

    Source

This article dates back to Dec '05, and contains all correct information from Yonah to Penryn, got Conroe and Clovertown in there as well, and was pretty much spot on with all of the details. Also, competition is not causing the cut, or at least not competition from AMD. At this point, Intel is probably worried about competition from their own products. Slashing quad core prices in half was really unnecessary, as there are only a handful of quad core processors on the consumer market, and they are all manufactured by Intel. Also, I don't think Intel was originally going to introduce the Conroe Ls out in such a fashion, especially with the pricing. An E6850 will cost you $266, that is not bad at all. Just keep in mind this is one big theory, and may be wrong, but either way, Intel is very motivated by something.

but will there be much performance improvement from the actual Centrino Duo T7x00 to the new intel quads? We are talking about a >20% performance?

arent thiese pictures a bit weird? i mean, this laptop seems to be like a PENTIUM IV in terms of "fat". They are 37mm wide. That is almost like a PIV and is supposed to be a Intel Centrino Duo http://www.powernotebooks.com/specs/images/j10-15/

Not exactly sure what you mean here. Intel has no plans of releasing quad-core mobile processors until next year at the earliest.
