thanks for the chance wingnut. I'm on my final year now, hoping to get a job right afterward

Lots of kids don't do well in school because they sit around playing computer games all day...
-
As long as you're not totally stupid and are willing to cut down on sleep and get by on 4-5 hours of sleep a day, you can get through undergrad spending 70% of your free time either gaming or partying.
Grad school, now that is a very different story. -
Someone had to be that guy...
-
Well FWIW I can honestly say I spent more time gaming and partying than I did studying during undergrad, and still made it out pretty good. Of course I had to sacrifice some sleep for a few years...
But see, undergrad I got by because I didn't have to know my **** or only had to pretend to know my ****, and I thought I was the ****. Then in grad school I realized I had to know my ****, and that I was **** lol.
Oh but nothing beats the summer after grade 8 where I pretty much played CS and TFC for like 10 hours everyday. It was fun times because I had to wake up right when my parents woke up, and stopped playing just before they got back so I could pretend I didn't use the computer the entire day, so I could get another 2 hours in at night.
Yeah I was pretty addicted.sasuke256 likes this. -
I play way too much WoT and Smash Bros, yet still have a great GPA
-
Thank You for the giveaway! + rep of course!
I'm starting my postgrad degree on Oct. 27th, plenty of time to play games until then!
-
Your giveaways are massive. Kudos to you for your generosity!
PAYDAY 2 seems like fun, but I haven't played a single game since the 30th of June, so I would wind up feeling guilty if I were to enter. Good luck to all the participants, especially those that are low on funds!
-
I know three people who dropped out / got kicked out of college because they had a WoW addiction.
-
Well, that's their problem. Not the fault of Blizzard if they don't have a good grip on self-control.octiceps likes this.
-
Yep. It's a harsh lesson, but like any addiction, a lot of times it takes something significant to make them wise up. This is why I think it's important for kids to feel the financial pain of college too, because I would think they'd be more likely to be more responsible than to sit and play games all day and fail classes. Maybe one semester, but that should be enough.
On another note, I'm surprised that not more people are choosing mark of the Ninja. It's highly acclaimed and a great stealth scroller. -
Eh, I'll change my vote to include Mark of the Ninja. I already have my problems with Assault Horizon...
-
Sounds like maturity issues.
No kidding. Whatever happened to self responsibility? -
Yeah once I started a real full-time job I finally understood why my parents behaved the way they did when I was a kid. Honestly I have no idea how they put up with me sometimes, because if I had kids and they behaved the way I did, I'd <del>give them a beating</del> disconnect their internets.

I get so confused as to what people are referring to when they say 'school', 'grad school', 'college' and such on the internet because the terminology used is so different each side of the pond. It's hard to decipher what level of education people are actually describing!

grad school = postgrad
college = undergrad, but could technically refer to 2 year community colleges granting associate degrees, although I've never heard it being used as such in the US; in Canada college usually does mean 2 year collegeCakefish likes this. -
I usually refer to the 2yr schools as tech school, community college, etc.
-
Or junior college.
-
Canada : refer as "CEGEP" for junior college (2 years) and "college" for university classes (bsc-msc-phd)
totally out of topic : its my birthday today
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Nope, still have no idea what you guys are talking about...
-
I see. Both undergraduate and postgraduate courses are taught by universities here in Britain. Starting to piece the puzzle together now!
P.S. happy birthday sasuke!sasuke256 likes this. -
Same in the US, for the most part. However, some universities dont have a postgrad program.
-
(Potentially) more Steam games to clutter my backlog while I wait for classes to begin. Great.
-
(sorry post deleted)
-
Unless you're in engineering or one of the "hard sciences" there should be plenty of time for gaming even during the semester. Hell I made it a point to game for 1 hour every week while I was in grad school because I needed a good distraction to keep me sane after spending 60-80 hours in the lab every week.
-
n=1 what studies did you had ?
-
I'm starting MRes Marine Biology in September. While there's no almost no doubt I'll be living most of my life in the lab/out on the field/in the library over the next year, I'm sure I'll still get time to enjoy games. Nothing shall stop me from playing The Witcher 3... NOTHING!!!

Oh yes, came in, saw the one game I wanted, won.
Thanks old man! And congrats to other winners!Marecki_clf likes this. -
Thank you very much! The Witcher 2 has been sitting in my backlog of shame for some time now, but now I can start with the original to get the full story of the trilogy!
I was planning on completing Batman Arkham Asylum/City this weekend but I may just have to play The Witcher games instead, although the 5+ hour download estimate from Steam suggests they may have to wait until tomorrow to start them.
Many thanks again, HTWingNut!
-
Awesome stuff champ!
-
Thanks HTWingNut! Checked out the trailer for Blockland and it looks like it'll entertain for quite a while
-
Pfffft, the real winners here is the ones who didnt get picked. Or got picked, depending on how you view it.
Top 10% are the real heroes here. The rest are just Average Joe`s who will get bad grades in school and now owe HTWingNut something.
You are now his b*tch.
It wasnt really a giveaway. Its was more a way to get his posts liked and repped in the future. You all fell for his plan -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.

Finished my MSc in organic chemistry then get fo'd. Naturally my supervisor wanted me to stay on for a PhD and I was just like NO WAY JOSE. (it was amicable though, he understood my reasons and even helped me get my current job)
Well yes and no. You need good enough grades that you don't get screened out in the first round, but yeah beyond that it's all about your real skills and interview skills. It's field-dependent obviously but I'll say for my field you better not show up at the door with a terrible transcript or you'll get laughed home. -
Thanks WingNut!
If anyone wants to trade Wargame for Darkness II, hit me up! Not sure I can handle this kind of game ATM. Need something mellower LOL. -
Yes... must... have... more... rep... never... enough... my precious...
