The title is a bit click-baity, but it pretty much seems to be my takeaway from this comparison.
Someone posted on reddit asking how decent this result on Unigine Heaven was:

Someone else responded with their results:

I then posted saying I'd run it, but that I expected to get smoked by the second result.
Except, nope, didn't happen:
That $3,000+ Omen 17 with a i9 and 2080 Super got matched by my $1,900 Clevo with a i7 and a 2070 Super:

I think there is something wrong with that dudes setup. Maybe he was running on battery mode, or power saving profile. He is only 9% over the score of my 4 years old SINGLE GTX 1080 with a CPU with only 6 cores. A RTX 2080 Super should be at least 40% faster than my SINGLE GTX 1080

If you are talking about the new HP Omen 17 with rtx 2080 Super and why is it performing lower then other 2080 Super cards....well the reason is easy: power throttling.
HP installed a locked vBIOS with only 150W TDP.
2080 Super was designed with 250W tdp.
Other manufacturers like Clevo sets lower tdp at 200W which is still not enough to unleash the full potential, however still better than the 150W that HP choose.
Because of this limit the gpu core clock does not boost as high as in other laptops so it performs worse.Last edited: Sep 17, 2020 -
A 2080 Super beating a SLI 1080 setup by 40% would be ridiculous IMO, I don't think even a desktop 2080 TI would outperform it by that margin.
Different resolution, but as an example:
Desktop 2080 TI (admittedly with a weaker CPU) only beats my laptop by 15.4% at 1440P. -

Here's a 1080P comparison:
Losing to a 2080 Super in a desktop by 25.54%.
Beat your 1080 SLI setup by 36.29% most likely (I took the 8.56% I beat yours by and multiplied the results, ie. 1.2554 * 1.0856 = 1.3628, except I didn't round like that in the first calculation). A desktop 2080 TI probably does beat you by 40%, a 2080 Super in a desktop also comes close, but that's only with the full 250W, not with the limited 150-200W laptop versions get.Last edited: Sep 17, 2020 -

just dude your 2070s will never beat a 2080s unless 2080s is power limited

It seems it doesn't scale that well, only 53% jump in performance. -
yrekabakery Notebook Virtuoso
2080 Super Max-P? i9-10885H? Might as well light money on fire.
