In the HP Pavilion dv9500, dv9600, and dv9700 Entertainment Pcs Maintenance and Service Guide it states that if youre running a NVIDIA 8600M GS graphics card the memory would be : 2047 MB of video memory when system memory = 4 GB (256 MB + 1791 MB Turbo Cache)
But in the NVIDIA System Information report I have: Total available graphics memory: 1535 MB Dedicated video memory: 256 MB Shared system memory:1279 MB.
Any help in understanding whats happening here would be greatly appreciated.

that could be how much is currently allocated, the higher number from HP means the maximum amount that the card could use (it really never will). The 8600m GS isnt that powerful of a card, so it doesnt really matter if its only using a little bit of ram because thats probably all it can use. Using more system memory isnt going to boost performance at all, it will dynamically allocate what it needs when it needs it.
although im not so sure why your dedicated memory is lower in the nvidia settings compared to the listed specs of the card -
256 MB + 1791 MB Turbo Cache or not?
