The Go7900 should outperform the 8400M.

the go 7900 is going to out-muscle the 8400m in basically everything.

the 8400m advantages are a wider feature set (directx 10, and high def video acceleration) and less heat output / power consumption.

so your battery will last longer. good luck!

so for future gaming would it be wise to go with the 8400m simply because of dx 10 support?

or will i be fine with a dx9 card (7900)?

If you only play Generals, 8400m gs will be fine. It's better than 7400, I have a laptop with 7400 and I can run it on high setting without affecting the performance.

I suggest you to go for 7900, like people said it will outperform the 8400M gs, IF you really want play dx 10 games in the future, i suggest to get 8600M GT, or 8800 in the near futrue.

You will be able to play on higher settings with the 7900 GS eventhough it doesn't support dx10. With the 8400M you shouldn't expect much.
