For medium setting gaming in general, which would perform better, asumming the same system specs? Thank you.

The Go7900 should outperform the 8400M.

the go 7900 is going to out-muscle the 8400m in basically everything.
the 8400m advantages are a wider feature set (directx 10, and high def video acceleration) and less heat output / power consumption.
so your battery will last longer. good luck! -
so for future gaming would it be wise to go with the 8400m simply because of dx 10 support?
or will i be fine with a dx9 card (7900)? -
If you only play Generals, 8400m gs will be fine. It's better than 7400, I have a laptop with 7400 and I can run it on high setting without affecting the performance.
I suggest you to go for 7900, like people said it will outperform the 8400M gs, IF you really want play dx 10 games in the future, i suggest to get 8600M GT, or 8800 in the near futrue. -
You will be able to play on higher settings with the 7900 GS eventhough it doesn't support dx10. With the 8400M you shouldn't expect much.
