I was considering purchasing a laptop with one of these two graphics cards from a national retailer.

    NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M
    Intel Media Acclerator 3100

Now for some reason I am considering a Dell at about $500 more but with a lot more iron.. Is the video card below far superior to the others? I assum e the 256MB is on board Video RAM and nor shared system?
    256MB NVIDIA® Quadro NVS 140M

    Thanks!

Yes; though the Quadro NVS 140M is based on the low-end Geforce 8400M-GT consumer card, it is superior to the Geforce Go 7150m and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 because both the 7150m and X3100 are integrated, while the NVS 140m is a discrete graphics card.

The differences between those 2 integrated cards and the dedicated card is very very large. The NVS140m (which I believe is 128mb dedicated + 128mb shared) will spank the other 2 in terms of performance. It's not even close.
