    Hi

Im currently looking for a new 17" notebook and
most of the notebooks im interested in have a
256MB Nvidia geforce go 7600gt graphic card.

As i dont know to much about graphic cards
could anyone tell me if this card is good enough
to play past and current games reasonably well
say at a resolution of 1024x768 for example.

    Thankyou

go7600/7700 and x1600/x1700 is the way to go if you want resenable battery life of more then 2 hours. Which laptops are you looking at?

The go7600gt will run current games and propaly all the up coming games on medium settings but the x1900 or go7900 have twice as much power and dont cost too much extra.

Depending on your budget you should be able to get a better card then that. Below $2000 it's pretty hard to get a card better then a 7600, but you may be able to configure a Dell E1705 with a 7900gs for about or even under $2000. The step up from a 7600 to a 7900 is pretty big, from playing everything at medium settings to playing everything at high settings smooth.

But over $2000 you can get a great laptop with a much more powerful graphics card. Check this beast out:
NP5760 Force. This laptop can be configured a 7950GTX, the most powerful mobile gaming graphics card on the market. With this, you can play almost every game at high resolution (1680x1050 +) with pretty high settings. This thing is much more powerful than the go 7600 and is quite futureproof so you shouldn't have to worry about getting a new laptop anytime soon.

Now if you are willing to wait a little bit, check this out: NP9260 Force. When this comes out it WILL be the most powerful gaming laptop ever. Dual 7950 GTXs, desktop conroe Core 2 duo processors.. this thing will be a beast. Of course it will obviously be more expensive then anything else.. fully beasted out it will cost you $5000. Probably worth it.. but only if you are an extremely hardcore gaming wanting to play all your games at the highest settings at huge resolution (1920X1xxx)...

Just some things to consider :)

The 7600gt is a great card. It's above the 7700 in terms of performance. It's the best performance card till you get to high range like the X1800

Note : The game will look ugly if you don't run it on native resolution.
If you want to buy Sony AR, I think it's better to go with something like M570U which is waaay powerful [unless you want the blu-ray, I think it's better to wait until blu-ray prices drop]

Oh an by the way there are no Geforce Go 7600GTs.. there are only 7600s and 7700s. So the 7600GTs you see are just 7600s, which perform worse than 7700s

^No, the Geforce Go 7600GT does exist, and it does out-perform the 7700 (slightly); they're rare though, I think only a handful of Sony notebooks have them.

True that, I just tried configuring an AR on Sony Style and the cheapest you can get a 7600GT is if you configure a dual HDD setup, which is a little over $2000 USD, and that's w/o Bluray  Granted the AR is an absoultely beautifully styled notebook.
